By Bay City News Service:

More than a dozen weapons were seized this month from people in Marin County who are legally prohibited from owning firearms during compliance checks, according to District Attorney Ed Berberian.

The compliance checks, conducted between Feb. 18 and 20, targeted people listed on a state database who are prohibited from possessing firearms due to domestic violence convictions or restraining orders, felony convictions, mental health-related commitments and other issues.

In an operation involving the district attorney's office, the Marin County Probation Department and local law enforcement, officials searched the homes of 12 people on the January 2014 state list, Berberian said.

Three of those people were found to possess firearms including seven handguns, four rifles, two shotguns and boxes of ammunition. Seven of those weapons came from one individual who was on the list due to a mental health commitment, Berberian said.

All of the weapons were confiscated.

Berberian said his department plans to continue to do randomized, periodic checks on those prohibited from owning firearms within the limits of available resources.

The arrests of Alfredo Lopez, Miguel Macias, and Alejandro Miranda is blatant racial profiling. The Canal should be a DEA Free Zone because they are just trying to improve their lives by selling drugs and accumulating firearms. The FBI uses profiling to catch criminals, but at least the FBI targets only Caucasians. BTW, even Crime Report does not comment on whether or not these "suspects" are members of illegal alien drug gangs or whether there are federal no bail warrant holds on them. Ya suppose?

Due to passage of the AB4 "Trust Act", local LEO's hands are tied by the ruling party socialist state legislators who insist that we welcome criminal aliens to stay and reoffend in our communities for their misguided social utopian experiment in the name of "diversity " , purposely misapplying the term "immigrant" to illegal aliens in hopes of using them to grow their entitlement programs and the belief it will increase their "progressive" constituency. All of us and our children will pay the price for many years to come, from this travesty. We may never undo the damage.

My sources tell me Macias and Miranda are straight up illegal and that one of them was previously deported. Neither one of them would be held under an immigration detainer in a county jail under the current trust act law. Lopez is a "permanent" resident who could be deported if convicted of drug sales or possesion, but unfortunately not a sure thing, especially in the 9th district court.

Three counties in the Bay Area and many throughout the state have DAs who refuse to prosecute illegal aliens for crimes for which they might be deported. So, you get arrested - you go to prison. An illegal alien gets arrested and they increase their welfare payments. 54,000 in Novato and 6 of us can see the handwriting on the wall???

The situations in both NY and CT will be escalating in the next five weeks.=============================== Connecticut Police Launch Internal Investigation Over Facebook “Threats” Made by Off-Duty Officer to Gun Owners: That officer, Joe Peterson, is now under internal investigation by the Brandford Police Department and is on leave. Branford Police have launched an Internal Investigation into the allegations that an officer made written comments during a Facebook conversation that has alarmed citizens’ after the comment was posted publicly on the internet. The comment was made between the complainant and the officer, while off duty, during a fervent debate between the two over current and proposed gun laws. The officer in question is Joe Peterson, who engaged in a heated debate on Facebook regarding gun control with a series of Facebook “friends.” Branford police noted that the comments were made by Peterson while he was off-duty, and he has been out on an extended Workers Compensation Leave. Chief Kevin Halloran confirmed the allegation and said, “We treat every complaint to our agency concerning our officers with the utmost of seriousness. This, like any other allegation will be thoroughly investigated and if any law, departmental rule or regulation has been violated the officer will be held accountable.” I agree with a commenter who states "this is NOT the typical law enforcement professional, this is a power-hungry human that happens to have become a police officer.
