Marin Woman Arrested, Linked to Stolen Checks and Fraudulent Bank Accounts

San Rafael Police have arrested a San Rafael woman who has been linked to thefts and fraudulent check activity throughout Marin County.

Julian Nina Bagley, 28, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, forgery, endorsing stolen checks, identity theft, petty theft and possession of narcotics.

Police had been searching for the identify of a woman who had deposited stolen checks into ATMs in San Rafael and Mill Valley. After weeks of investigation, the police made the ATM photos of her public and a citizen, as well as a San Rafael Police Department officer, confirmed her identify, according to San Rafael Police Department officials.

Bagley’s alleged crime spree began in May in Novato. The San Rafael Police Department provided an outline of the series of events:

• May 30, 2013, Bagley allegedly steals a wallet from a woman’s purse in a Novato Safeway.
  
• July 3, 2013, Checks are stolen during a residential burglary in San Rafael.
• July 5, 2013, Bagley allegedly attempts to open an account at a San Anselmo bank and deposit a stolen check from the residential burglary in San Rafael. She was allegedly using the name of the victim from the Novato wallet theft, but became nervous and left the bank.
• July 17, 2013, Bagley opens an account at a West America Bank in San Rafael under the name of the victim of the Novato wallet theft. 
  
• July 22, 2013, Bagley deposits fraudulent checks into ATM’s in San Rafael and Mill Valley where her photo is taken.
• July 29, 2013, two separate residents are notified by Bank of America that there is suspicious activity on their accounts. Investigation reveals that the checks Bagley were cashing on July 22, 2013 were stolen from San Rafael residences.

Police investigators also believe Bagley is linked to other fraudulent check activity. The investigation is ongoing.

On Wednesday, the San Rafael Police Department also arrested another San Rafael 28-year-old in an unrelated case. The arrested man has been linked to at least a dozen San Rafael burglaries.
