Petaluma Teen Missing in Lake Tahoe

Disappeared while on a trip to the South Shore with friends over New Year's Eve

The search is on for a Petaluma teen who disappeared while attending a music festival in South Lake Tahoe over New Year's Eve.

Alyssa Byrne, 19, was attending the Snow Globe Festival in the area and staying at Horizon Hotel with friends. For an unknown reason, Byrne was separated from her friends and returned to the hotel alone, where she was seen by other guests.

But she appears to have left again and has not been heard from since.

Petaluma police confirmed that Byrne was missing, but said Douglas County Sheriff's Department in Nevada was handling the investigation. A call to the agency Thursday morning was not immediately returned.

Byrne is a longtime Petaluma resident and graduated from Casa Grande in 2011. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to contact the Douglas County Sheriff's Department at 775-782-5126 or Petaluma Police Department at 707-778-4372.

Tell your daughters NOT to go out alone at night in SLTahoe. It is not safe! I know from personal experience. I hope that Alyssa comes home soon.

This article states that she "took off again" when all other articles say she never made it back to the hotel room. Strange wording and potentially not accurate which is a shame. Most of all it's terrible that this poor girl is missing. I hope and pray that she is safe and returns home soon. My heart goes out to her and her family.

Hi Erin. It's true that what happened is sort of fuzzy and I'm waiting to hear back from from South Lake Tahoe police. What I was told by Petaluma PD, is that Alyssa was seen at the hotel that evening, but may have taken off again because she never made it back to her room. We will keep you updated as we get more details from the police.

Praying for your safety, my 19 year old daughter was in the area with friends. I worried about her every second. Fortunately, she returned safely.
