Police Hunting For WinCup Burglars

Suspects flee into the marsh after attempting to raid deserted factory for copper.

Twin Cities police are looking for two men who tried to steal metal from the shuttered WinCup manufacturing plant on Tuesday afternoon.

A suspect went to the Twin Cities Police Authority station around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday to report someone broke into the empty business at 195 Tamal Vista Blvd. and stole copper on July 11, Sgt. Michael Norton said.

An officer met the theft victim to view the location of the theft at the former plant that manufactured styrene cups, bowls and food containers.

The officer saw two suspects stealing metals when he got inside the business. The officer then chased the two male suspects but they escaped the building, Norton said.

The two suspects tried to drive away in a red Nissan XE pickup, but another Twin Cities police officer in an unmarked car confronted them.

The suspects left the Nissan and were last seen entering marshland east of Redwood Highway in Corte Madera, Norton said.

Twin Cities police and neighboring law enforcement agencies searched the marshland but the suspects were not found.

The suspects are a Hispanic man about 25 years old and a white man about 30 years old with a shaved head.

Police determined the Nissan pickup was stolen from the Larkspur Ferry Terminal in June, Norton said.

Anyone with information about the theft of the copper or the suspects' identities is asked to call Twin Cities police at (415) 927-5150.
