Pot Plants on Public Land, $7K Jewelry Fraud and a Greenbrae Driver Rams Guy Trying to Repossess His Car

A two-week roundup of Central Marin Police activities also includes more than $5,000 worth of bike thefts and a slew of shoplifting at the Corte Madera malls.

A resident of the 22 building of Skylark Drive reported the theft of license plate from her vehicle while it was parked near her residence. A Theft of License Plate report was taken and the license plate was entered into the Stolen Vehicle System.

A resident of the 400 block of Riviera Circle reported she received a call from a male subject claiming to be her grandson, stating he had been in a drunk driving accident and needed money for bail. She said that she hung up on the caller before getting anymore information. Documentation was provided for the attempted fraud.

A Loss Prevention Agent for Nordstrom, located in the Village Shopping Center, reported they had a female subject detained for a theft of $364 in merchandise. A Kentucky woman was arrested for shoplifting. She was released on a citation.

A San Rafael resident reported his bicycle was stolen off his hitch rack on the back of vehicle, by cutting the cables, while it was parked in the lot at the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal. The bicycle is an orange men's Specialized Stump Jumper mountain bike, valued at approximately $1,000. Documentation was provided for the grand theft. 

A resident of the 500 block of Chapman Drive reported someone cut out a section of his wire fencing. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

A Kentfield resident reported the theft of her bicycle from where it was parked at the Bon Air Shopping Center. The bicycle is a gray and black, Giant, mountain bike. There was a blue, Diamondback, 21 speed mountain bike left in its place. A Theft report was taken and the recovered bicycle was taken to CMPA for safekeeping.

A Loss Prevention Agent for Nordstrom, located in the Village Shopping Center, reported an in store credit card fraud which resulted in a $2,683 loss. They advised they do have suspect information. A Fraud report was taken and there is further investigation pending.

Pursuant to contacting a subject on foot in the area of Tamal Vista Blvd. and Madera Blvd., it was determined the subject had two outstanding warrants held by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. A homeless man was arrested for the warrants and booked at the Marin County Jail.

A resident of El Dorado Hills reported he works for a repossession company and was in the process of repossessing a vehicle in the 600 block of Via Casitas when the owner drove the vehicle into his vehicle, trying to cause injury to him, and fled the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, a Greenbrae man, was located and arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. However, the repossessor later declined prosecution and the subject was released without charges. A report was taken to document the incident.

A Corte Madera resident reported that while her vehicle was parked in a lot of a business in the 10 block of Fifer Ave., entry was made to her vehicle via a window smash of the front passenger window. Her brown leather purse, which contained an iPhone, identification, and two credit cards was taken. She found that multiple fraudulent charges had been made on the cards since the time of the theft. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

A resident of the 10 block of Birch Ave. reported someone used his credit card number and Social Security Number in the Netherlands, attempting to make a $7,000 purchase of jewelry. The sale was declined. There also was another attempt to open a credit account, which was also declined. A Fraud report was taken.

A Corte Madera resident reported her son’s black and gray Specialized mountain bike, valued at $350, was stolen from a bike rack in the Village Shopping Center. The bicycle had been locked to the rack; both the bicycle and the lock were taken. Documentation was provided for the theft.

The owner of a business in the 1000 block of Magnolia Ave. reported someone graffitied the building. The building had been freshly painted and the painters painted over the graffiti free of charge. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

A San Rafael resident reported someone stole her locked bicycle from her place of employment in the 10 block of East Sir Francis Drake Blvd. The bicycle is a pink with a black seat, 24 speeds, Scanttate road bike, valued at $800. A Petty Theft report was taken.

Pursuant to contacting a subject on foot in the area of Meadowsweet Drive and Sanford St., it was determined the subject had an outstanding warrant held by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. A San Rafael man was arrested for the warrant and booked at the Marin County Jail.

A caller, via 9-1-1, reported a vehicle that hit a fire hydrant, shearing it off, in the 2200 block of Larkspur Landing Circle. The Larkspur Fire Department responded to shut off the water and conducted a medical check-out of the driver. After being cleared, a Burlingame man was arrested for Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol. He was booked at the Marin County Jail.

A traveler from Denmark, staying at the Corte Madera Inn located at 56 Madera Blvd., reported a load of his clothes was stolen from the hotel laundry room. The approximate loss was $450. Documentation was provided for the theft.

A caller reported via 9-1-1 that there were two subjects who appear to be extremely intoxicated in the 400 block of South Eliseo Drive. A second caller also reported the two men were stumbling, slapping at each other and had now fallen into the bushes. Officers checked the area and located the two subjects, a Greenbrae resident and a Napa resident. A Greenbrae man was arrested for Public Intoxication and was booked at the Marin County Jail. The Napa man had been drinking, but was not intoxicated. The Greenbrae man allowed him to return to his apartment, which was nearby.

The City of Larkspur Public Works Department reported they found a marijuana plot planted on city property in the 100 block of Sir Francis Drake Blvd. The area was checked and the plants were located, along with a small unoccupied encampment. The plants were removed. CMPA Officers will provide extra patrols of the area for the possible responsible subjects.

A resident of the 80 block of Mariner Green Drive reported she is the victim of identity theft. She stated he was called by Target regarding a credit application made at a Sacramento store. She advised unknown subjects used her personal information and home address to apply for credit, but gave a 510 area code cell phone for contact. An Identity Theft report was taken and there is possible follow-up pending. 

A Corte Madera resident reported she just drove through the Corte Madera Town Center and saw a male subject that possibly needed assistance lying on the ground between the street and sidewalk. She said there were several cans scattered around the subject, who also had a bicycle next to him. CMPA Officers checked the area and located the subject. A homeless man was arrested for Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia and following processing at CMPA, he was released on a citation.

A resident of the 50 block of Elizabeth Circle in Greenbrae reported they could hear a male and female screaming at each other at the end of Elizabeth Circle. CMPA Officers made contact with several juvenile subjects on the bike path to the rear of Elizabeth circle that had started a small campfire. The Larkspur Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.

Contact was made with a Kentfield juvenile male, a Turlock juvenile male, a Larkspur woman, two Novato juvenile females, two Greenbrae juvenile females and a Greenbrae juvenile male. The juvenile subjects were advised on curfew violations and their parents responded to the scene to pick up their children.

A resident of the 300 block of Willow Ave. reported he received a call on his answering machine that alleged the call was from the IRS. The message said he had to call back that day. When he called the number left, the person contacted asked for his Social Security number. He advised he did not provide them with his Social Security number. Documentation was provided for the attempted fraud.

Pursuant to contacting a subject on foot in the area of Nellen Ave. and the US 101 pedestrian overcrossing, a San Rafael man was arrested for Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia. He was released on a citation.

Pursuant to a traffic stop in the 80 block of East Sir Francis Drake Blvd., the driver was determined to have an outstanding warrant held by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. A Kentfield woman was arrested for the outstanding warrant and was booked at the Marin County Jail.

A resident of the 2100 block of Redwood Highway reported someone attempted to steal his vehicle during the night. An Attempt Vehicle Theft report was taken.

A resident of the 800 block of Via Casitas reported her vehicle was broken into via a window being smashed. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

A resident of the 70 block of Corte Oriental reported her vehicle's window was smashed and her Fast Trak transponder and a fanny pack were taken. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

A business in the Village Shopping Center reported a female subject took $225 worth of merchandise without paying for it. The area was checked for involved subject with negative results. Documentation was provided for the shoplifting. 

A resident of the 2000 block of Redwood Highway reported her identity was stolen by using her information to open fraudulent accounts. An Identity Theft report was taken.

A Corte Madera resident reported the theft of her son's locked bicycle while he was at a basketball camp at Redwood High School. The bicycle is a black with white, with red designs, Specialized Hardrock, 26 inch mountain bike, valued at approximately $550. Documentation was provided for the theft/

A resident of the 1800 building of Lincoln Village Circle reported her silver mountain bike, valued at approximately $300, was taken from her carport. The lock had been cut. Documentation was provided for the theft.

A Larkspur resident reported his two bicycles were taken from where they were parked in the 500 block of Magnolia Ave. One bicycle is a green and black men’s, 8 speeds, Specialized Hard Rock. The second bicycle is a red and black men’s, 8 speeds, Gary Fisher Tassahara. The approximate total loss is $850. Documentation was provided for the theft.

A resident of the 100 block of Lower Via Casitas reported she received notice that there is a pending lawsuit against her. She said the letter said she is being sued by America Express Bank for $15,000 in charges made to a credit card in her name. She has never had an American Express credit card. She was advised regarding some of the current on-going scams and a Fraud report was taken.

A Mill Valley resident reported that while she was in a business in the Village Shopping Center, a purse that she had brought in for exchange was stolen while she was making another purchase. The purse is a black Mark Jacobs valued at $160. Documentation was provided for the theft.

CMPA Officers responded to the 2000 block of Redwood Highway on a report of a male and female involved in a physical fight near a vehicle in a lot. Officers contacted the involved subjects, both residents of Sonoma. Pursuant to the investigation, a Sonoma man was arrested for Domestic Battery. He was booked at the Marin County Jail.

A resident of the 100 block of Golden Hind Passage reported a female sitting in a vehicle who they felt may be under the influence due to her movements in the vehicle. Officers responded and contacted two female subjects in the vehicle. It was determined one of the subjects is on probation and a probation search was conducted. A homeless woman was arrested for Possession of Narcotics and Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription. After she was processed at CMPA, she was booked at the Marin County Jail. The second subject was identified and released at the scene.

A resident of the 20 block of Fairview Ave. reported he is the victim of an identity theft. He stated he was notified by a collections agency that there was an outstanding bill for $500 in his name with a cable television company. He has since learned that there have been multiple attempts to open credit lines in his name. An Identity Theft report was taken and there is additional investigation pending.

A resident of the 900 block of Via Casitas reported her vehicle was keyed sometime over the past two days. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

A resident of the 700 block of Meadowsweet Drive reported his bicycle was stolen. He stated someone cut the lock and stole his red men's, GT Aggressor, 21 speeds mountain bike, with an approximate value of $300. A Petty Theft report was taken and the bicycle was entered into the Automated Property System.

CMPA Officers responded to an audible alarm in the 300 block of Doherty Drive. A responsible that was on scene advised it appeared a shed door had been forced open and damaged; however, it appeared nothing was taken. An Attempt Commercial Burglary report was taken.

A business in the 300 block of Magnolia Ave. reported there had been a possible entry of the business. They had located evidence of a window being pried partially open. A report was taken for an Attempt Commercial Burglary. Extra patrol requested for the graveyard hours. 

A resident of the 700 block of Via Casitas reported the theft of their bicycle sometime in the past month. The bicycle is a blue and silver women's, 18 speeds, Giant Cypress LX, valued at $600. The bicycle had been locked in a locked room next to the mail room. A Petty Theft report was taken and the bike was entered into the Automated Property System.

While on patrol, a CMPA Officer was notified of a possible burglary to a storage unit at Larkspur Storage, located at 2160 Redwood Highway. A Commercial Burglary report was taken.

A resident of the 200 block of Francisco Blvd. reported someone spray painted his and his daughter's vehicles. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

Pursuant to contacting a subject in a vehicle in the 1800 block of Redwood Highway a Sonoma man was arrested for Possession of Heroin, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia and Possession of a Hypodermic Needle. He was processed at CMPA and then booked at the Marin County Jail. 

A resident of the 30 block of Elizabeth Circle reported a possibly intoxicated subject has been sitting in the same place for hours and has a bottle of "hard liquor" with him. Contact made with homeless man who was determined to be intoxicated. He was detained for Public Intoxication and transported to the Helen Vine Treatment Center for detoxification.

A Greenbrae resident reported while his vehicle was parked at the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal, the catalytic converter was taken. Documentation was provided for the theft. A Kentfield resident also reported the catalytic converter was stolen from their vehicle while parked at the Ferry Terminal. Documentation was provided for the theft.

A San Rafael resident reported she lost her black leather wallet at a business in the Corte Madera Town Center. The wallet contained credit cards, identification and cash. A report was taken for a Petty Theft.

Pursuant to contacting two subjects on foot at the Tamalpais Drive overcrossing, one of the subjects was determined to be intoxicated. A homeless man was detained for Public Intoxication and was transported to the Helen Vine Treatment Center for detoxification.

Pursuant to contacting a subject on foot in the area of Bon Air Road and Via Hidalgo, it was determined he was intoxicated. A Homeless man was arrested for Public Intoxication, Resisting Arrest and Violation of Probation. He was booked at the Marin County Jail. 

A Tiburon resident reported that her vehicle, which was parked in a lot at the Marin Country Mart shopping center, was broken into. Entry was made via the rear window being smashed. Taken was a yellow leather briefcase, a laptop computer and an external hard drive. An Auto Burglary report was taken. 

Pursuant to contacting him his residence in the 30 block of San Clemente Drive, a Corte Madera man was arrested for an outstanding warrant held by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked at the Marin County Jail.

Pursuant to contacting a subject in an occupied vehicle in the 700 Meadowsweet Drive, a CMPA Officer arrested a San Francisco woman for Possession of Methamphetamine. She was booked at the Marin County Jail.

A resident of the 300 building of Old Quarry Road North reported the front of her apartment patio has been vandalized with newspaper and it is an ongoing problem. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

A resident of the 30 block of Prince Royal Passage reported a possible internet crime. He advised he received an e-mail from the Department of Justice requesting a $300 payment. He was given advice provided documentation for the attempted fraud.
