Suspect Hits Referee in Face, Steals Phone During Soccer Game

The suspect was upset after the referee gave a player a yellow card during a soccer game in Larkspur.

A referee was hit in the face and had his phone stolen during a soccer game after giving a player a yellow card. 

At 9:30 a.m., March 31, Twin Cities Police Authority received a report of a robbery at the Redwood High School football field. According to Cpl. Sethi Jervan with Twin Cities Police Authority, after a player committed a foul and received a yellow card during a soccer game, the referee was hit in the face and had his phone stolen.  

A player and a mother were reportedly yelling at the referee after he gave the player a yellow card. The suspect stole the referee's phone and ran away, and later returned the phone, Jervan said.

The soccer game was between two teams from a league, not Redwood High School students, Jervan said.
