Twin Cities Police Log: April 13-19

Thieves targeting catalytic converters; Argument escalates into threat of armed violence.

There has been a recent surge in the theft of catalytic converters. The Twin Cities Police have warned locals about such thefts in the past. There were four reported incidents in the past week:

• A resident of Sonoma reported that while it was parked in a parking lot of the Corte Madera Town Center, the catalytic converter was stolen from under her Toyota pick-up. Some type of saw was used to cut the converter from the exhaust system.

• A Berkeley resident advised that within a half an hour timeframe, the catalytic converter was stolen from his Toyota Tundra pick-up while it was parked in the 1200 block of Larkspur Landing Circle.

• A Mill Valley resident reported the theft of her catalytic converter from her Toyota 4-Runner while it was parked in a parking lot of the Corte Madera Town Center.

• A Novato resident reported the theft of her catalytic converter from her Toyota Sequoia while it was parked in the parking lot at the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal. The converter was cut from beneath the vehicle by some type of cutting tool.

A caller reported via 911 that a fight had just occurred at the American Legion Hall, 450 Magnolia Ave., and that one of the involved subjects was now threatening to retrieve a gun from his vehicle. Officers responded and were unable to locate any of the subjects involved. Extra patrol was provided for the area due to the large party going on at the hall.

A Santa Rosa resident reported that his white 1993 Nissan 4x4 pick-up truck was stolen from the parking lot of Trader Joe’s, 2052 Redwood Highway, during an approximate twenty minute timeframe. He was in possession of the keys at the time. A check of the area met with negative results. An Auto Theft report was taken and the vehicle was entered into the stolen vehicle system.

A caller reported three suspicious subjects cutting plants out of the center median in the 300 block of Via La Cumbre. Three male Petaluma residents were contacted and they advised they were cutting out old aloe plants for “medicinal purposes.”

After being contacted on a traffic stop in the area of Magnolia Ave. and Cane St., a San Anselmo man was arrested for possession of hashish. He was booked at the Marin County Jail.

A resident in the 100 block of Locust St. reported there were two suspicious male subjects in the area of their residence. One of the subjects appeared to be intoxicated and the other seemed to be trying to help that subject. The caller said that the subject who appeared intoxicated broke the rear window out of a vehicle with his elbow and then both subjects ran off. After the subjects ran off, a female subject, who had been hiding down the street came out and ran up the hill. The area was checked for the three subjects with negative results. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and advised that nothing was missing. 

Officers responded to a dispute between two neighbors in the 10 block of Pixley Ave. One neighbor claimed that the other was on a ladder, looking over the fence, and yelling at children in her yard. 

Officers responded to the Bank of Marin, 501 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., for a dispute between two subjects. It was determined that the subjects had been involved in an accident in California Highway Patrol jurisdiction. Officers stood by while the CHP responded and handled the accident.

Officers responded to the Wells Fargo Bank in the Bon Air Center for an irate customer causing a disturbance. A Petaluma man was contacted, warned, and issued a trespass warning for the bank.

Pursuant to being contacted as a suspicious subject at the Greenbrae Chevron Station, a homeless man was arrested on an outstanding Marin County Warrant. He was booked at the Marin County Jail.

An anonymous caller reported a homeless encampment in marsh area between Cost Plus and Nordstrom, east of Redwood Highway. Signs of encampment were located, however, it was unoccupied at the time the Officer checked it.

A resident in the 500 block of South Eliseo Drive reported that her daughter’s bicycle, valued at $943, was stolen from under the stairwell, where it had been locked, at their building. She was out of town at the time of the call and will respond to TCPD on a later date to complete the report.

A resident in the 200 block of Morningside Drive called to report the theft of their dog by a person they know. It was determined that it is a civil dispute.

A Fairfax resident reported that while her vehicle was parked in a parking lot at the Corte Madera Town Center, in the area of The Counter restaurant, it was broken into. Taken were a laptop computer, a wallet and $20 cash. Total loss was estimated at $230. 

A Mill Valley resident reported that while his unlocked vehicle was parked at the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal, someone had removed the stereo.

In the 50 block of Piedmont Road, a resident reported that her guest’s rental car had been the victim of a hit-and-run accident during the night. There is no responsible party information at this time. 

While on routine patrol, a TCPD Officer located a minor injury accident between two bicyclists. They had swerved to avoid an object in the roadway and had run into each other. They were treated at the scene by the Larkspur Fire Department.

The owner of Colonial Liquors, 212 Tamalpais Drive, reported that an agitated subject had come into the store yelling about an altercation he had with several juvenile subjects in the street moments before. He advised that the subject had now threatened him. Officers arrested a San Francisco man for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place and Violation of Probation. He was booked at the Marin County Jail.

A business in the Marin Country Mart reported that one of their customers had left their vehicle in neutral, had forgotten to set the brake and that it had rolled into their vehicle. 

A TCPD Officer was flagged down by a Richmond resident and a Vallejo resident who were reporting a burglary of their vehicle. An unknown subject smashed the right front window of the vehicle and stole both their purses. Total loss was estimated at $1,441. Some of the stolen property was later located nearby on Niven Way. 

Officers responded to the 500 block of Corte Madera Avenue on a report of a minor injury solo bicycle accident. A Pleasant Hill woman was transported to the Marin General Hospital Emergency Room for treatment of an arm injury by ambulance.  

Corte Madera Public Works reported graffiti vandalism on a dumpster at Corte Madera Town Park. Photographs of the graffiti were taken and the vandalism was documented.

A caller in the 10 block of Morningstar Course reported that he had just witnessed the theft of a bicycle from a neighbor’s garage. The area was checked for the involved subject with negative results. A Residential Burglary report was taken. Loss was a blue boy’s 12 speed Trek bicycle, valued at $800.

An Antioch resident reported that while her vehicle was parked in the 10 block of Rich Street, an unknown subject slashed her tires, broke her windshield and poured motor oil inside her vehicle.

Officers responded to a call of a stuck big-rig at the end of Koch Road. On arrival, it was determined that the driver had also struck and damaged a city sign. 

An Antioch resident reported that while it was parked in a lot at the Village Shopping Center, her locked vehicle was entered by unknown means. An HP laptop computer, two credit cards and a cell phone were stolen.

A resident of Petaluma advised that while his vehicle was parked and locked in the park-and-ride lot, located on Drake’s Landing Road, it was broken into via a window smash. His Apple 15 inch laptop computer, in a black case was taken.

A resident of the 20 block of Stetson Avenue reported that while she was in Indigo, her iPhone, valued at $300, was stolen. A courtesy report was taken and will be forwarded to the appropriate Police Department for any possible follow-up.

During this one week time period, Twin Cities Police had 277 calls for service. This included two accidents with minor injuries, one hit and run accidents and two property damage only accidents. There were 5 auto burglaries and one residential burglary. There was one call related to Driving while Intoxicated which did not result in any arrests being made.
