Police track hit-and-run suspect; Man rages against DMV

• Twin Cities police officers followed the trail all the way to the suspect in a hit-and-run collision in Greenbrae on Saturday night. A woman reported she heard a crash, and then discovered that her vehicle parked on Paseo Way had been hit by a passing car and suffered major damage.
Officers followed a trail of engine fluid to a black 2000 Ford Explorer and arrested Kellie Joy Beals on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, misdemeanor hit-and-run and violation of probation. She was booked at the Marin County Jail.

• Police units responded to the DMV on a report of a subject who was “throwing things into the building." A subject was contacted who was upset about having been refused a driving test. The subject was served with a trespass notice and sent on his way. The information was forwarded to the CHP.

• Police Units responded to the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in the Corte Madera Town Center on a report that two children, a six year old and a one and a half year old, were left unattended in the store while their mother, a Tiburon woman, worked out at the gym. Initial attempts to locate the mother met with negative results. The father was contacted and was responding to the store when the mother returned. A child endangerment report was taken and follow-up is pending.

• Twin Cities police officers assisted the Marin County Sheriff’s Office in the area of the 5800 block of Paradise Drive with locating, and taking into custody, a mentally disturbed subject who had been walking in the roadway on U.S. 101, but then had jumped the fence to Paradise Drive. The Sheriff's Office transported the person to the Crisis Unit.

• An officer responded to the area of Orange Ave. and Tamalpais Ave. to assist a subject who had struck a deer, and it was now stuck under his vehicle. The officer was successfully able to free the deer.

• A Pinole woman reported that her ex-partner had come to her place of work in the 100 building of Tamal Plaza, struck her in the lip and threw her phone in the bushes. The involved subject had left the scene prior to TCPD arrival. A report for Domestic Battery was taken. The same woman also later reported receiving threatening phone calls from the subject, in violation of a Restraining Order.

• The Togo’s Restaurant in the Marin Country Mart shopping center reported the theft of a table and five chairs from outside of the restaurant sometime during the night. Total amount of the loss was unknown.

• A resident of the 300 block of North Almenar reported that someone had broken the lock on his gate and let his dog out and that this was the third or fourth time this had happened. He believed this is the result of a dispute with a neighbor over his dog barking. The neighbor was contacted and denied being involved. Advice was given.

• A San Rafael man was arrested on an outstanding Ventura County Warrant after being contacted on a bicycle stop in the 2100 block of Redwood Highway. He was booked at the Marin County Jail.

• A Walnut Creek woman reported that her vehicle was a victim of a hit-and-run accident while it was parked in the 800 block of Via Casitas. The accident was not witnessed and there is no suspect information at this time.

• Officers responded to the area of 5 Bon Air Road for a report of a non-injury accident. Assistance was provided with the exchange of information. Later in the week, one of the drivers came to TCPD and advised that her daughter, who had been a passenger in the vehicle, was now having neck pains due to the accident. The accident was upgraded to a minor-injury accident and a report was taken.

• A Larkspur resident reported that he had parked his vehicle in the area of Magnolia Ave. and Alexander Ave. during the day and when he returned, he discovered that it had been stolen. The vehicle was later located in the area of Meadowsweet Drive and Sanford Street with no damage and nothing missing.

• Pursuant to a traffic stop in the 400 block of Tamalpais Drive, a San Rafael woman was arrested for suspicion of Driving Under the
Influence of Alcohol and booked at the Marin County Jail.

• A San Rafael resident reported that while her locked vehicle was parked in the area of Bed, Bath and Beyond in the Marin Country Mart, a window was smashed and her laptop computer, in a black computer bag, was taken. Total loss is $2,100.

• TCPD officers assisted the Marin County Sheriff’s Office with investigating the fraudulent use of a credit card at the Apple Store in the Village Shopping Center which had just taken place after the theft of a wallet at the Strawberry Village Safeway store. Officers are following up on suspect information.

• A resident in the 100 block of Altura Way reported that while he was on vacation for 10 days, his home had been broken into. A
computer and other miscellaneous electronic items were taken. Total loss is undetermined at this time.

• After being located at the end of Casa Buena Drive at Meadowsweet Drive, eight minors, in two cars, were reprimanded and released for possession of alcohol and Marijuana after their parents were contacted and advised.

• A resident of the 100 block of Ward Street reported vandalism to two motorcycles and a vehicle parked in the parking garage at her building.

• TCPD Units responded to a report of a disturbance in front of the Silver Peso Bar in Larkspur. They were able to determine that the
dispute was verbal only and all parties were sent on their way. A cab was called for one of the subjects.

• After being contacted on foot in the 540 block of Magnolia Ave., a Larkspur man was arrested and transported to the Marin County Jail for being intoxicated in a public place.

• During this one week time period, Twin Cities police had 316 calls for service. This included one accident with minor injuries, four hit and run accidents and six property damage only accidents. There was one auto burglary, one commercial burglary and one residential burglary. There were two calls related to Driving while Intoxicated and two arrests made for Driving while Intoxicated.
