UPDATE: Banning Man Identified in Murder

The Riverside County Coroner's Office identified the man shot and killed Wednesday night as a local resident.

26-year-old Lawrence Wilson has been identified as the man who collapsed and died from gunshot wounds Wednesday night after running into a local eatery for help, police and coroner's reports indicate.

The Riverside County Coroner's Office released the information Thursday evening.

Wilson was shot "multiple times," near North Phillips, in Banning, Police Chief Leonard Purvis told Banning-Beaumont Patch.

"The male victim was rendered first aid at the location and transported to the San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital Emergency Room where he later succumbed to his injuries," police reported.

Incidentally, the shooting is believed to have happened in the 100 block of North Phillips Street-- the very same block on which a brutal triple homicide took place in 2011.

No suspects have been named in this case yet, and police do not yet know if it may have been gang-related.
