The Marin County Sheriff's Office Coroner Division has identified a pedestrian who was killed when he was hit by a car on northbound U.S. Highway 101 Tuesday night as 76-year-old Joseph Price of San Rafael.

Price had been released from the Marin County Jail earlier Tuesday, sheriff's Lt. Jamie Scardina said. He had been in jail on a warrant for driving on a suspended license.

Price has an address on Lincoln Avenue, across the highway from the jail, and it is possible he was heading there when he ran across northbound lanes near North San Pedro Road around 8:30 p.m., Scardina said.

Witnesses told investigators Price was in the No. 2 lane when he was struck by a Toyota Matrix, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said. The Toyota's driver, Ana Hernandez, 38, of Novato, stopped at the scene and remained there until emergency responders arrived, Barclay said.

Barclay said Wednesday the CHP was still trying to confirm from witnesses whether Price was also struck by a second vehicle.
