Watch Out For Frauds, Scams

Twin Cities Police Log March 7-13: Larkspur resident is scammed out of $24,000 whe he tries to buy a car on the Internet.

 

• A resident of the 100 building of Lincoln Village Circle reported he attempted to purchase a vehicle via the internet. He has since determined that it is fraudulent. The loss is $24,000. Documentation was provided for the incident and there is further action pending.

• Twin Cities Police Officers responded to a report of an audible alarm to a business in the 10 block of Bon Air Road. The business was checked and a smashed window and an open door were located. The interior was checked and no one was located inside. A responsible for the business responded and determined there was no apparent loss. A Commercial Burglary report was taken.

• Later in the day, an employee of the same above business reported a man standing in the parking lot who they felt may be the person who made entry earlier today. A homeless man was arrested for being under the influence of narcotics and violation of probation. After processing at the TCPA station, he was booked into the Marin County Jail. There is further investigation pending.

• A Corte Madera resident reported that while her car was parked in the lot at Gold’s Gym, 10 Fifer Ave., entry was gained to her locked vehicle by smashing the driver's window. Her purse, containing miscellaneous property including credit cards and $400 cash, was taken for an approximate total loss of $500. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

• A resident of the 200 block of Via La Cumbre reported she returned home and saw a male subject run out of the carport carrying a Nordstrom bag. She could see a silver drinking pitcher sticking out of the bag which she knew had been in her residence. The area was checked with negative results. A Residential Burglary report was taken.

• A resident in the 90 block of Corte Lenosa reported her vehicle was vandalized yesterday morning. Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

• A Tiburon resident reported her daughter's cell phone had been stolen from Redwood High School earlier in the day. She advised she used the mapping feature on the phone and traced it to a location in Richmond. A theft report was taken and there is follow-up pending.

• A Larkspur resident reported she was driving on William Avenue in the area of Chanticleer Street when a subject standing in the back of a small pick-up threw something which hit her windshield, causing a chip. The area was checked for the involved vehicle and subjects. The incident was documented and there is possible follow-up pending.

• A resident of the 1100 block of South Eliseo Drive reported the theft of her vehicle. The surrounding areas were checked for the vehicle with negative results. A Vehicle Theft report taken and the vehicle was entered into the Stolen Vehicle System.

• A Loss Prevention Agent for Nordstrom, located in the Village Shopping Center, reported they had an uncooperative subject in custody for the theft of merchandise. A Hercules woman was arrested for Shoplifting. She was released at the scene on a citation.

• A San Rafael resident reported that while his vehicle was parked in a lot at the Village Shopping Center, it was broken into. Taken was a bag containing miscellaneous items, along with $20 cash. Total loss is approximately $293. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

• A resident of the 2100 building of Lincoln Village Circle reported two male subjects going through the dumpster at the apartment complex, creating a mess. Contact made with a Concord man and a San Mateo man. They were advised of the complaint and sent from the area.

• A San Rafael resident reported his vehicle is missing from the parking lot in the 100 block of Nellen Avenue. A Vehicle Theft report was taken and the vehicle was entered into the Stolen Vehicle System. The vehicle was later located in Pinole and the owner was notified.

• While on the above detail, the Officer located an unoccupied stolen vehicle that had been reported to the Richmond Police Department. The owner was contacted and responded to the scene. The vehicle was released to the owner and removed from the Stolen Vehicle System.

• A resident of the 400 block of Via Casitas reported someone broke into her locked vehicle and stole a GPS, electronic metronome, and an electric timer for an approximate loss of $585. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

• Pursuant to a traffic stop in the 200 block of Tamal Vista Boulevard, a Larkspur man was arrested for Driving while Under the Influence of Alcohol. He was Booked into the Marin County Jail.

• A resident of the 300 block of Via La Cumbre reported that someone pried open their locked vehicle and took Taylormade golf clubs, valued at approximately $2,000. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

• A resident in the 200 block of William Avenue reported a bicycle was stolen from her garage. The bicycle is a men's Giant Trance 21 speed, dual suspension, mountain bike valued at $2,000. A Residential Burglary report was taken.

• A resident of the 400 block of Elm Avenue reported being the victim of an identity theft. An Identity Theft report was taken and there is further action pending.

• A Mill Valley resident reported that while his vehicle was parked in a lot at the Corte Madera Town Center, a window was smashed out and MacBook Pro and his wallet were taken. The loss is approximately $1,316. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

During this one week time period, Twin Cities Police had 326 calls for service. This included one call related to a hit and run accident and three property damage only accidents. There were five auto burglaries, one commercial burglary and three residential burglaries. There was one call related to Driving while Intoxicated, resulting in one arrest.
