Welfare Check Results In Confrontation

Twin Cities Police Log March 28-April 3: Parents suspected of using Methamphetamine challenge a social worker with a handgun-shaped lighter.

• A Social Worker for Marin Children’s and Family Services reported he responded to a residence in the 700 block of Meadowsweet Drive on a report of the parents using Methamphetamine and concern for the children. He advised that when he contacted them, both adults had signs of active use of Methamphetamine. He advised that the male subject became volatile and screamed and yelled at him in the parking lot. He said the subject was also holding a handgun or lighter shaped like a handgun. Officers responded back to the location with CFS. The subject turned over a replica handgun that doubles as a lighter.

• A resident in the 50 block of Madrone Avenue reported his hardwired GPS unit was taken from his locked vehicle which was parked in front of his house.

• A TCPA Officer located three subjects at Heatherwood Park. Contact was made with a Corte Madera man, who was arrested for Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Alcohol and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and a Tiburon man who was arrested for Possession Marijuana and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. Both subjects were released on a citation. The third subject, a Corte Madera juvenile male, was transported back to Redwood High School.

• The Richmond Police Department reported they had located a vehicle reported as stolen to TCPA from the lot at the Marin Airporter, 300 Larkspur Landing Circle, on March 15, 2012. There was no one in custody, the vehicle had minor stripping, but was not burned. No plates were missing. The owner was notified and the vehicle was removed from the Stolen Vehicle System.

• A resident of the 60 block of Corte Ortega reported a GPS and a cell phone charger were stolen from her locked vehicle. Entry was possibly made through a door that was already broken. The estimated loss is $220.

• A resident of the 100 block of Granada Drive reported her residence was burglarized while she was at her husband’s funeral. She discovered her jewelry was missing. The estimated loss is $20,000. A Residential Burglary report was taken.

• A maintenance worker for the Larkspur Plaza Apartments reported he found a man sleeping in the men's stall in the club house. He said when he asked the subject to leave, the man said something incoherent. TCPA Units contacted a homeless man who was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant held by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked at the Marin County Jail.

• A resident of the 500 block of Tamalpais Drive reported he received a scam call from a person saying he was his grandson in jail in Spain and needed money. He asked the subject several questions which the person could not answer. There was no loss.

• A resident of the 10 building of Skylark Drive reported a board game was stolen from the trunk of her unlocked vehicle. The loss is approximately $120. Documentation was provided for the theft.

• A Larkspur resident reported her son’s iPod was stolen from his backpack while he was at Henry C. Hall Middle School. She stated an employee of the school witnessed a student take the backpack and other students saw him using the iPod during school. A theft report was taken and there is follow-up investigation pending.

• Marin Joe’s Restaurant, located at 1585 Casa Buena Drive, advised that a customer had reported a vehicle in the upper lot has a broken window. The owner was contacted and it was determined that the vehicle had been broken into. The loss was estimated at $600. An Auto Burglary report was taken for documentation.

• While on the scene of the above Auto Burglary, the Officers located another vehicle with a broken window. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and it was determined that a cell phone, valued at $500, was stolen. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

• Pursuant to a traffic stop in the area of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and El Portal Drive, a San Rafael man was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was booked at the Marin County Jail.

• A resident of the 140 block of King Street reported she is now the victim of identity theft related to documents that were stolen from her vehicle in a previous TCPA case on December 29, 2011. An Identity Theft report was taken and there is possible further investigation pending.

• An employee of Citibank, located in the Bon Air Shopping Center, reported a male subject had attempted to rob the bank. A note was passed, but no loss was reported. The suspect left in a green vehicle with another subject driving. An Armed Robbery report was taken and there is further investigation in progress. The suspect is described as being a white male adult with bleach blond hair, approximately five foot nine inches tall and in his mid 20s. He was wearing a yellow plaid long-sleeve baggy shirt.

• An employee of the Mollie Stone’s Grocery Store, located in the Bon Air Shopping Center, reported two subjects were in custody for theft of alcohol valued at $237. A Kentfield man was arrested for Commercial Burglary, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime. He was booked into the Marin County Jail. A Juvenile Larkspur male was arrested for Commercial Burglary and Conspiracy to Commit a crime. He was released to a parent on a citation.

• A business located in the Village Shopping Center reported someone took sunglasses worth $550. The theft was captured on video footage. A Commercial Burglary report was taken.

• A resident in the 400 block of Via Casitas reported her neighbors, a male and female, were possibly in a physical altercation. She stated she saw the male subject throw personal items off of the balcony. Contact made with a Ross man and a Greenbrae woman. It was determined the altercation was verbal only. The female decided to leave the residence and declined a report for the damaged items.

• Pursuant to a traffic stop in the 200 block of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, a Vallejo man was arrested for Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia and a Sausalito man was arrested for Destruction of Evidence. Both subjects were transported to the Marin General Hospital Emergency Room for medical clearance before being released on citations.

• A New York City resident reported while she had been at a business in the Marin Country Mart shopping center, she had walked out of the store and left her purse sitting on a bench inside. When she returned the purse was gone. She stated that the purse contained approx. $5,000 worth of jewelry. A Theft report was taken for documentation.

• A Belvedere resident reported while she was shopping at Trader Joe’s in the Cost Plus Plaza shopping center, her wallet was stolen from her purse in the shopping cart. She reported the wallet contained various credit cards, $150 cash, and her identification. She reported her ATM card was subsequently fraudulently used at an ATM in the Bon Air Center for a $1000 withdrawal. A Fraud report was taken and there is possible follow-up pending.

• A resident of the 1300 block of South Eliseo Drive reported he heard a woman scream twice. He said he could see a man near the water in the area and is not sure if he is related to the woman screaming. He advised the woman is sitting on a bench behind the building. Officers made contact with a Greenbrae woman who was found to be intoxicated in public. She was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail.

• A Larkspur resident reported there is an obviously intoxicated man walking around the Marin Country Mart shopping center looking for his car. The area was checked and a Greenbrae man was located. He was arrested for being Intoxicated in a Public Place and was taken to the Helen Vine Center for detoxification.

• A resident of the 170 block of Prince Royal Drive reported her wallet was stolen over the weekend in Novato and there have been fraudulent charges on her credit cards. She has learned one card was used at the Toys-R-Us store in San Rafael and they may have a suspect on video. She has also learned there have been other attempts. A courtesy report was taken and will be forwarded to the appropriate Law Enforcement agencies.

• A resident of the 20 block of Willow Avenue reported his business name has been hijacked. There has been an ad placed in the Yellow Pages with his business name, but with someone else’s phone number.

• An employee of Mollie Stone’s Grocery Store, located in the Bon Air Shopping Center, reported they have a subject in custody for the theft of merchandise. A San Anselmo woman was arrested for Shoplifting and released on a citation. The loss is $40.

• An employee of Bay Area Laser Surgery, located at 1000 Magnolia Ave., reported a Mill Valley woman came in and spent $504 on Botox. When her credit card was declined she said she was going to go to her vehicle to get some money and never came back. A Fraud report was taken and there is further investigation pending.

• A resident of the 10 block of Tamal Vista Boulevard reported persons she knows took the keys to vehicle from her residence and they are now are refusing to return the vehicle to her. She has attempted several times to get the vehicle back on her own with negative results. An Auto Theft report was taken and the vehicle was entered into the Stolen Vehicle System.

• A resident of the 100 block of Willow Avenue reported a theft by her son. She reported her son used her credit card without permission. He has already paid back some of the money, but is refusing to pay the rest. A Fraud report was taken and will be filed with the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.

During this one week time period, Twin Cities Police had 290 calls for service. This included two calls related to accidents with minor injuries, one hit and run accident and three property damage only accidents. There were three auto burglaries, two commercial burglaries and one residential burglary. There were no calls related to Driving while Intoxicated.
