Beaumont Assistant Superintendent Wael Elatar is on Administrative Leave

Elatar, assistant superintendent of business services, signed a three-year contract that started in May 2011, according to Beaumont Unified School District records.

The assistant superintendent of business services for Beaumont Unified School District is on administrative leave, according to the district board's president.

Wael Elatar signed a three-year contract in April 2011 to work for the district through June 2014, according to district records.

His salary started at $132,862 and as of July 1, 2012, it was $135,127, according to his contract and assistant superintendent salary schedule 214.

Elatar, who could not be reached to comment for this report, is on administrative leave, according to district board of trustees president Susie Lara.

"This is a personnel issue and we are unable to provide any further information at this time," Lara said in an email Wednesday Sept. 26.

Lara could not immediately be reached for comment.

Carol Severns is acting superintendent of business services in Elatar's absence, another board of trustees member said.

Superintendent Barry Kayrell could not be reached for comment. He is moving to Hemet Unified School District in the near future.

Acting superintendent Maureen Latham, who begins work Oct. 1, also could not be reached for comment.

I agree Lloyd. There have been at least 2 school board meetings since Elatar was placed on administrative leave and not one word was mentioned by either the current school board members or any member of administration. I think it is time to replace all the "yes" people on the board who think the superintendent and his cabinet know it all so instead of thinking in the best interest of the students, they allow administration to DICTATE to them how to vote or what they want to have done. I don't believe anyone close to any person in administration for any school district should ever be elected to the School Board. This should be a definate conflict of interest and/or nepotism.

Well, Wael has resigned, effective 12-31-2012. I know that for legal/personal/confidential reason, BUSD DO/Board can't divulge details...they (Board) should at the very least provide the public a certain amount of information and transparency as to why...given that is the public's money that's been and continues to pay Wael his salary and such. And BUSD Board would do well to tell the truth this time, and not insist on feeding the public more of their usual bs.
