Firefighters, Chief to Get Salary Increases

The increases were approved at the Jan. 16 Larkspur City Council meeting, the Marin Independent Journal reports.

Larkspur firefighters and the fire chief will receive two salary increases over the next two years — a decision that was approved by Larkspur City Council at the Jan. 16 meeting, according to the Marin Independent Journal.

Firefighters and Fire Chief Robert Sinnott will get a one-percent increase for 2013, followed by a two-percent increase in 2014, the Journal reports.

What the IJ failed to report was (1) the savings of 9% of an employee's salary by requiring the employee to pay their share of the annual pension contribution and (2) moving from defined benefits for retiree health benefits to a retirement health saving account. Both are immediate cost savings and eliminate any future liabilities associated with these benefits.
