Fresh Express Spinach Bags Sold in Marin Recalled for Possible Salmonella

Select bags of 9 oz. Fresh Express Spinach has been recalled from several supermarkets and stores in Marin.

Select bags of spinach possibly sold at several Marin retailers have been recalled for possible salmonella, the FDA announced today.

Fresh Express is voluntarily conducting this precautionary recall on its 9 oz. bags of spinach with a Use-by Date of Nov. 7 and product code S299B25.

The US Department of Agriculture’s random sample testing program found one positive result for salmonella in the spinach. However, no illnesses or consumer complaints have yet been reported to Fresh Express associated with this recall. No other Fresh Express products are subject to this recall.

Fresh Express voluntarily recalled 2,939 cases of the 9 oz. bag of spinach in April 2011 as well.

Fresh Express customer service representatives are already contacting relevant retailers to confirm the recalled product has been removed from store shelves and inventories and that none is available for consumer purchase.

The recalled salads were distributed primarily in the Western region of the U.S.

Consumers who may have purchased the recalled salad are asked not to eat it and throw it out. Fresh Express is offering a full refund.

Consumers with questions or who would like to secure a refund may call the Fresh Express Consumer Response Center at (800) 242-5472 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

Stores around the Peninsula that sell the 9 oz. Spinach are:

Safeway, Strawberry Village

Safeway, 1 Camino Alto

Use Fresh Express’s Store Locator to find the retailer nearest you.

Hopefully, they acted before anyone gets sick. It's too bad, as I find the prewashed spinach convenient, but I guess you have to be careful.

Hi Claire, I did find the info, but we don't qualify on the age requirement. He is only 10, will beRead More 11 in January. Also, there is a prerequisite for web design. I hope you will hold this again next year when he is old enough and we would like to prepare him. Can you be more specific on the prerequisites? Thanks. Jeanene

Thanks Jeanene. The age guideline is a good guide as children really need to have done algebra toRead More understand coding. There are some great new apps to help younger children start programming. I'll be posting an article on this on my kidscontent.co.uk website soon and via @clairecomins on twitter. Keep in touch and please do spread the word about AppCamp so it can happen again! Thanks, Claire
