Larkspur Protesting Sanitary District Rate Increase

City has five properties affected by proposed increase.

The city of Larkspur has formally come out against plans by the Ross Valley Sanitary District to increase its rates to its customers.

"The City is a ratepayer for five affected properties within the District and has submitted a letter of protest for each one," states a Larkspur press released issued this afternoon.

The sanitary district, as pointed out in the Larkspur press release, "proposes raising rates by $331 a year for many Larkspur residents and $177 a year for property owners in the rest of the District (to $923 per year and $697 per year, respectively)."

Larkspur City Council members came out against the rate increase during the council's May 18 meeting.

"The Council determined that the District needs to clarify further its operational needs and describe its long-term capital investment strategy to justify the proposed increase," the city stated in ite press release.
