Lining Up Funds For City Improvements

The Larkspur City Council meets Wednesday to get funding plans in order for Doherty Drive and other projects.

The last time the Larkspur City Council met, former Mayor Larry Chu suggested to the rest of the council he'd be interested in discussing the idea of leaving the Association of Bay Area Governments.

That comment, on the heels of Corte Madera's split with ABAG, didn't seem to get much traction.

When the City Council members meet again on Wednesday, March 21, they're expected to discuss a contract proposal for a ABAG/MTC station area grant. The council will also look at Larkspur's General Plan and Housing Element report.

There are a couple other funding matters on the agenda. The council is expected to approve the use of Transportation Funds for Clean Air to build the Sir Francis Drake overcrossing that will connect to the CalPark Tunnel path.

Once the infamous clapper rail's mating season ends, the City hopes to start work on Doherty Drive. The funding is there, but the project will be more difficult. Improvements to one of the most pot-holed streets in the Bay Area could begin while Redwood High School is in session. That will require special planning to get students to and from campus while the street is blocked off.

The City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. — since members officially moved up the start time for all future City Council meetings.
