Marin Migration: Where Do Residents Come From and Move to?

A new U.S. Census Bureau map of migration patterns between counties shows Marin's net gain of 2,049 residents from 2006 to 2010, with most of those leaving staying in California.

Between 2006 and 2010, Marin County stole 125 residents from Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, and lost 294 residents to Tarrant County, Texas, home to Arlington and Fort Worth, and lost another 108 residents to Bennington County, Vermont.

That's just a sliver of the migration patterns to and from Marin County between 2006 and 2010, according to a U.S. Census Bureau interactive map that went live last month, emphasizing just how far flung movements are between the 255,000-person Marin County and the rest of the country.

During the survey period, 7,941 people moved to Marin County from elsewhere and 5,892 moved elsewhere from Marin for a net gain of 2,049 people. Of those who moved here, 5,710 did so from within California, while 2,586 of those who moved away from Marin stayed in California.
