Record Production for Marin's Ranches and Farms

County's annual report just released with all sorts of details about crop yields, showing a big jump in gross value of all goods.

Mighty Marin, one of California's smallest counties, is basking in a record year for agricultural production, according to a new county report.

The 2011 gross value of all agricultural production was a record $70,076,404, an increase of  $13,895,066  — 24.7 percent — from the 2010 total agricultural production value, according to statistics provided by Stacy K. Carlsen, the county's Agricultural Commissioner/Director of Weights and Measures.

The report represents gross returns to the producer and does not indicate actual net profit.

Milk is the longstanding, premier commodity for Marin and last year accounted for 44.7 percent of the crop report’s total value. The average market milk price for 2011 was higher than 2010, contributing to an 18 percent increase in the overall milk value of $4,835,000.

Field crop values for 2011 increased by $4,082,157, representing a  74.1 percent increase when put up against 2010.  This boost was a result of  increased  pasture  values and greater survey participation, Carlsen said. The county said the 74.1 percent increase in value is a likely a correction to 2010’s 38.2 percent decrease, and pasture production value being realized by livestock producers as purchased livestock feed costs increase.

Hi Claire, I did find the info, but we don't qualify on the age requirement. He is only 10, will beRead More 11 in January. Also, there is a prerequisite for web design. I hope you will hold this again next year when he is old enough and we would like to prepare him. Can you be more specific on the prerequisites? Thanks. Jeanene

Thanks Jeanene. The age guideline is a good guide as children really need to have done algebra toRead More understand coding. There are some great new apps to help younger children start programming. I'll be posting an article on this on my kidscontent.co.uk website soon and via @clairecomins on twitter. Keep in touch and please do spread the word about AppCamp so it can happen again! Thanks, Claire
