Schools, Government Offices Closed For MLK Holiday

Around Town Jan. 16-17: Drop by Book Passage for food and fun; prepare for some exciting high school basketball matchups.

 

• Just a reminder that libraries, schools and government offices are closed today in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

• Are you a fan of mysteries? No, not the Scooby Doo variety. We're talking the Inspector Lynley series from award-winning author Elizabeth George. She'll be at Book Passage in Corte Madera for lunch and to meet with fans of her books at noon on Monday. Call (415) 927-0960, ext. 1 to reserve your space. The $55 ticket includes an autographed book and lunch.

• Redwood High School basketball hosts San Marin on Tuesday in a Marin County Athletic League matchup. The girls start at 6 p.m. and the boys tip off at 7:30 p.m.

• Basketball powers Marin Catholic and Branson go head-to-head Tuesday at College of Marin. The girls start at 6 p.m. and the boys tip off at 7:30 p.m.

• It's storytime for parents and their little toddlers. The Larkspur Library is hosting its regular Baby Bounce on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. The Corte Madera Library welcomes Mother Goose on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Both events are perfect for children up to 24-30 months old.

• Author Ayad Akhtar brings his new book to Book Passage in Corte Madera on Tuesday at 7 p.m. American Dervish artfully presents a conflict that arises within a family split over the fundamentalist beliefs of their homeland in Pakistan.

• In case you haven't seen it yet, seriously, don't miss the Matt Damon family flick We Bought A Zoo. It deftly dances between the extremes of sweetness and depression for a touching story, based on true events. The film is playing through Thursday at the Lark Theater.
