SMART Station Discussion Continues Thursday Night

The General Plan Update/SMART Station Area Plan Community Advisory Committee (GPU/SAP CAC) is hosting a public meeting to discuss ideas for the Station Area Plan.

Residents of central Marin County who are interested in the development ideas surrounding the proposed Larkspur SMART station will have an opportunity to see and hear about planning ideas and to propose ideas of their own at a meeting scheduled for Thursday evening, February 21.  The meeting was originally scheduled for February 19.

The SMART station study is funded with a grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Association of Bay Area Governments.

At previous meetings citizens have expressed concerns about increasing the amount of high density housing in the area and how that increase will affect traffic in the Twin Cities area.

The current plan includes 950 new housing units with densities ranging from 30 to 35 units per acre.

According to the minutes of  a CAC meeting in October, former General Plan Update CAC member Julie Leitzell said that even though the new housing will be near a variety of transportation choices, people will still use their cars and that she opposes new high-density housing in the area.

The meeting is scheduled to run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Larkspur Recreation Department Community Room, 200 Doherty Drive in Larkspur.
