Democrat Jared Huffman was appointed to the new 2nd congressional district seat last fall, representing Marin County, including Larkspur and Corte Madera.

But how much did his House seat cost him?

Campaigns cost money—most of the time lots of it. In terms of dollars and cents, Huffman raised $1,449,962 during the 2012 election cycle, according to MapLight, a non-profit that tracks money in politics.

That figure is pretty typical: the average House member raised $1,689,580, or $2,315 a day, according to MapLight.
