What Kind Of Tree Is That? Discover Your Town's Heritage

Around Town March 23-25: Explore Magnolia Avenue or the world this weekend.

 

• From the giant redwoods of Baltimore Canyon, to the landmark magnolia on Magnolia Avenue, to the row of Mexican fan palms lining Baltimore Avenue, trees have long defined the character and history of Larkspur. More than 100 species of trees can be found in Larkspur’s neighborhoods. Join your friends and neighbors on a free tour of Larkspur's heritage trees, led by tree expert Katherine Jones. Meet at Baltimore Park on Saturday, March 24, at 10 a.m. to make the acquaintance of these impressive trees on a casual walking tour.

National Geographic Little Explorers, 10-11 a.m. Saturday, bringing the science museum experience to our store with hands-on activities, quizzes, songs and more. Children ages 3 and older are invited to explore the world togther through maps. Pottery Barn Kids, Village at Corte Madera.

• Generations of adults grew up watching Dick Van Dyke on TV and in movies, tumbling over the sofa on the Dick Van Dyke Show or sweeping chimneys in Mary Poppins. The Lark Theater presents another of his classics for all the family Sunday at 3 p.m.: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. A clever dad invents a car that can fly and float, but when the family test drives the new wheels, they take a detour into fantasy and adventure!

• Marin General Hospital offers prenatal and postnatal instruction classes for expectant parents. The class is held Saturday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $100 per couple. A tour of the maternity unit is also included in this course. Participants should bring the following items to class: two Pillows, a mat or blanket and a bottle of water.

• Enjoy good food all weekend at Marin Country Mart. The fun starts Saturday at 9 a.m. with the farmers market, which features organic meat from Fallon Hills Ranch — a Bay Area supplier for fine restaurants including Left Bank in Larkspur. The market also has fun stuff for kids who enjoy live music and playing with rabbits, chickens and ponies. Come back Sunday for the Off The Grid Food Truck Extravaganza for a global feast.
