Hall Middle School Named California Distinguished School

The Larkspur school join more than 200 high and middle schools in the state recognized.

One Larkspur school was recently recognized for "going the extra mile," which earned it the title of a California Distinguished School.

Hall Middle School joins a total of 218 public middle and high schools named 2013 California Distinguished Schools for academic achievement.

“These schools have gone the extra mile to provide high-quality instruction that puts their students on the right path toward career and college,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson in a news release.

The California Distinguished Schools program "recognizes those schools that have made progress in narrowing the academic achievement gap," according to the California Department of Education.

The application process consists of a written application, which includes a comprehensive description of two of the school's signature practices, and a county-led site validation review process, which validates the implementation of those signature practices. Those "signature practices" are then shared with other schools.

The middle school was the only one recognized within the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District this year. Five schools in Marin County were recognized, but no high schools in Marin County earned the distinction. Elementary and secondary schools are recognized in alternate years.
