Middle School Students Get Into the 'Swing of Things' Thanks To Larkspur Chereographer

Cynthia Glinka taught over 900 students at Mill Valley Middle School how to swing in a five-week course by Kiddo.

Students at Mill Valley Middle School were two-stepping, hand switching and jiving in the gym for the finale of a five-week swing dancing course sponsored by Kiddo!

Dance coach and choreographer Cynthia Glinka of Larkspur taught the entire student body – more than 900 kids – and they showed off their moves during the Valentine’s Day Lunch Hour Swing Dance as the middle school jazz band helped them keep a beat.

“Kiddo! is proud to be able to provide a dance unit for Mill Valley Middle School students again this year, said Kiddo! Executive Director Trisha Garlock. “In addition to meeting state curriculum standards, this multi-faceted program also gives students an opportunity to learn important social skills as well as have fun.”

Glinka, director of Manners in Motion and On the Dance Floor, provided a similar program at the middle school in 2009 and 2010. She worked with Andre Salinas in the physical education department to coach the students for the swing dance finale.

“The kids are really excited about showing off their new found dancing skills and are enthusiastic about partner dancing,” Glinka said. “It’s the original social networking!”
