More COM Students Earn Degrees

By Cathy Summa-Wolfe, COM

Figures released last week by the College of Marin Admissions and Records Office indicated that the number of associate degrees that the college conferred this year jumped 40 percent over last year.

This year 393 students will receive associate degrees compared to 280 in 2012.

In addition, the total number of students receiving certificates increased by 33 percent this year. Last year 79 students received certificates compared to 105 this year.

The overall number of graduates also rose this year by 34 percent. Last year 321 students graduated compared to 430 students this year.

The administration attributes the rise in graduates to the efforts of faculty and staff over the past year.

“Our faculty and staff have been deeply engaged in working together towards a common goal and as a result there is a greater collective focus on student outcomes and student success,” said COM Superintendent/President Dr. David Wain Coon. “It is gratifying to see such positive results and it is great news for our students.”
