Pedal (And Dog) Power At Redwood

High school engineering students test their mettle and designs.

Richard Esteb challenged his engineering students at Redwood High School to come up with a working design for a human-powered car. After weeks of  designing, redesigning, cutting and welding, they got the chance to put their cars to the test with a lap around the school's south lawn.

Some of the ideas were very creative, with sled dogs, pedal power and other designs. Some worked better than others, but the focus was on the process more than the finish, according to Esteb.
