Moving Towards Health - A dance and movement class for people living with serious and chronic illness

Five Points Fitness & MedaFit introduce a weekly gentle movement class for people living with serious and chronic illness. This class is specifically designed to ease participants into exercise, awaken the body, stimulate the immune system and energize life force.

Weekly classes start Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 10.50am to 11.50am at Five Points Fitness, 5651 Paradise Drive, Corte Madera (next to Paradise Foods); class fee is $10/session with scholarships available.

Classes are led by nationally acclaimed dance therapist, Dr. Ilene Serlin (www.ileneserlin.com). Dr. Serlin is a licensed psychotherapist who also holds a Masters in Dance Therapy from Hunter College; she is ably assisted by Joy Gottlieb, a Somatic Movement Therapist with 25 years of community experience.

Exercise is a frequently recommended, key component in many treatment plans for serious and chronic illness ranging from breast, prostate and colon cancers to diabetes, arthritis, osteoporo-sis, MS and especially Parkinson’s Disease. This class is ideal for both people challenged to intro-duce exercise to their lives as well as those who enjoy a fun dance class.

MedaFit is a non-profit exercise program for people living with serious & chronic illness and a division of Renewal Retreats, a California 501c3 corporation. Their goal is to make exercise easy, enjoyable and an integral part of daily life by linking the patient, their medical team and an exer-cise routine (www.renewalretreats.org/MedaFit/index.htm ).

Fivepoints Fitness is a Marin based health center with universal appeal. Their fitness philosophy is centered on five keys; strength, endurance, flexibility, stability and nutrition.
