Around Town Jan. 26-27: Let's get ready to celebrate Chinese New Year.

 

• Happy Chinese New Year! Ring in the Year of the Dragon with help from Ying Compestine as she passes on tips and recipes to cook adelicious and healthy feast. She'll present Ying’s Best One-Dish Meals: Quick & Healthy Recipes for the Entire Family at Book Passage in Corte Madera on Friday, Jan. 27, at noon. The $35 ticket includes a signed copy of the book, a three-course meal and tea.

• In the mood for a crime drama? Drop by Book Passage with author Val McDermid as she offers up the latest adventure of detective Tony Hill in The Retribution.

The Larkspur Walkers welcome you to join them on walks that start and finish at Piper Park. The group walks approximately 3 miles within an hour, and routes include some hills and easements staircases as well as level ground.  Meet at the east end of the parking lot, near the picnic area. Arrive 5 minutes early for easy warm-up exercises before the walk.  If you would like to join the Larkspur Walkers, contact the Larkspur Recreation Department or come directly to Piper Park and ask for Nancy Spivey, leader of the group.

• Drop by Fit First Pilates in Corte Madera for free classes at 6:30 p.m. every night this week.

• Redwood High School's basketball teams head to Novato on Friday, Jan. 27, for a Marin County Athletic League game. The Redwood girls (11-8 overall) will try to shake off a three-game losing skid start when they take on the Hornets at 6 p.m. The Redwood boys (11-9 overall) will try to put together back-to-back wins as they tip off at 7:30 p.m.

• Marin Catholic will visit Terra Linda on Friday, Jan. 27, in a MCAL basketball doubleheader. The Wildcat boys (16-4 overall) will try to bounce back from Tuesday's loss to Drake when they take on the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. Marin Catholic's girls (12-7 overall) try to keep their wining streak alive when they tip off at 6 p.m.
