MCAL Honors Groves in Girls Soccer Again in 2011

The all-league midfielder last season earns first-team honors as a forward this time around and is joined on the elite squad by Redwood teammates Olivia Do and Zoe Trutner.

senior forward was selected to the All-Marin County Athletic League team in girls soccer for the second year in a row when the league announced its postseason honors this week.

Groves made the first team as a midfielder last season.

Six other Redwood standouts earned recognition from the MCAL. Midfielder and defender joined Groves on the first team, midfielder received a second-team spot, and midfielder , defender Sydney Arth and goalie Erika Turnquist were given Honorable Mention distinctions.

Do, a senior, and Trutner, a junior, moved up from last year's all-league second team. Arth, a senior, was also an Honorable Mention selection last year.

Redwood's seven selections were two more than any other team.

Joining Groves, Do and Trutner on the All-MCAL first team were forwards Storie Ledger of Tam and Alana Shaw of Branson, midfielders Madison Tye of Terra Linda, Darcy McFarlane of Branson and Kayla Coffee of San Rafael, defenders Kristi Cascio and Clare Renk of Marin Catholic and Nicole Henderson of Tam, and goalie Rachel Mehr of San Marin.

Tam's Kalia Rothlind was selected as the MCAL Player of the Year.
