Redwood's Vogensen Awarded Dipsea Scholarship

Senior is among five honored by the Dipsea Race Foundation on a night when Melody-Anne Schultz of Ross, a two-time race winner, is inducted into the Dipsea Hall of Fame.

's Benjamin Vogensen was among five high school seniors awarded a total of $22,500 in college scholarships by the Dipsea Race Foundation at the Dipsea Hall of Fame Dinner at the Mill Valley Outdoor Club on Friday night.

Vogensen plans to attend College of Marin.

Also earning scholarships through an application process that weighed athletics, essay writing, letters of recommendation and Dipsea participation were Tam’s Daniel Milechman and Hannah Berman, Marin Catholic's William Cooney and Rachel Skokowski of Castilleja High in Palo Alto.

Milechman, the two-time California state Division 4 cross country champion and North Coast Section 1,600-meter winner this spring, was selected as the first Bill Patterson Scholarship recipient. He is headed to Harvard University in the fall.

Berman plans to attend the University of California, Cooney will soon be off to the University of Michigan and Skokowski has been accepted at Princeton University.

Also at the dinner, of Ross was named to the Dipsea Hall of Fame.

The two-time race winner was the 25th inductee into the exclusive club.
