Turnovers Turn Tide on Redwood in Stunning Loss

Giants lead by 20 points in the third quarter before Drake takes over en route to an MCAL boys basketball win.

SATURDAY’S SCORE: Drake 47, 43.

REDWOOD’S RECORD: 8-7 overall, 1-2 in MCAL.

GAME SUMMARY: The Redwood boys basketball team saw a 20-point lead disintegrate midway through the second half of their Saturday night game with Drake, resulting in a painful 47-43 road loss to conclude the first week of Marin County Athletic League.

The Giants led 37-17 late in the third quarter before numerous turnovers — 26 when it was all said and done — energized the Drake offense en route to a 26-4 Pirate run.  While Drake junior guard Joey Euphrat led the Pirate turnaround with 13 points, Redwood finished with just six points in the final quarter.

Redwood was once again led by junior , who still posted his second consecutive double-double, leading the Giants with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior Maurice Coleman had 13 points (on 4-for-7 shooting, and a near-perfect 5-for-6 from the line) along with six rebounds.  Senior added eight points, and sophomore came off the bench to score six.

REACTION: “We need to learn how to play a full game,” said coach. “That is it. We are going to go to practice on Monday and work on getting better at finishing games. No one in this league is going to go undefeated. I know that.”
