Marin Catholic boys and girls reach basketball semifinals

Marin Catholic's boys and girls basketball teams are one win away from the North Coast Section Division 4 finals after an exciting night of action Saturday.

Head coach Mike Saia watch his sixth-seeded boys upset No. 3 Cardinal Newman 75-72 in overtime Saturday. The Wildcats (20-10) face No. 2 St. Mary's (20-9) on Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.

Conor Renk gave Marin Catholic a on-point lead in the closing seconds of the game and Patrick Conroy added a pair of free throws to secure the victory.

Mike Padovese scored a team-high 16 points and Connor O'Sullivan had 15 for the Wildcats.

The Marin Catholic girls stopped No. 6 Salesian, 55-47, to set up a semifinal showdown with No. 7 Piedmont (18-11). The Wildcats will host the semifinal game Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Emily Easom scored 25 points as the Wildcats avenged an earlier loss to Salesian.
