Marin Catholic Rounds Out 2011; 2012 Here We Come!

MC kisses 2011 goodbye and welcomes 2012. The accomplishments of 2011 are highlighted.

As 2012 is born, it's time for Marin Catholic to look back on all those wonderful accomplishments of 2011. What a year!

In February of 2011 both the men's and women's varsity basketball teams made it to the MCAL playoffs with the men suffering a defeat in the semifinals, and the women winning the MCAL title. Both teams would then go on to the North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs. The women's team, after losing to Piedmont in an emotional game in the NCS semis was then put into a pool of the top 8 teams in Northern California. The team had not made it that far since MC won the state championship. I was a member of this incredible team that turned many skeptics into believers. After a long yet amazing season of games in both California and Arizona, our season ended in March with a defeat on Modesto Christian's home soil. To this day, our team remains a close-knit family although seven out of our original 15 now attend universities.

The spring sports teams also experienced much success. The men's golf team, women's varsity soccer team, baseball team, and men's lacrosse team all took home NCS titles winning pennants and banners. I am a member of the women's soccer team, and that was quite a wild and bumpy ride. Finishing our season with 12 ties, no one expected MC to be victorious in the NCS championship. Beating Branson and Tam before taking on Redwood in the final was just crazy. In my years at MC we had never defeated Redwood or Branson, then, two times in 8 days!

The baseball team and women's lacrosse teams also took home MCAL titles (I'm probably forgetting some team's achievements. Forgive me). In spring, football training as well as cheerleading began for the upcoming 2011 fall seasons.

The MC Annual Fashion show, our biggest fundraiser of the year, raked in nearly $100,000. As the lunch show and the dinner show took place in March, many models (including myself) gathered backstage with adrenaline running. With the theme "Imagine," I knew we were all in for something big. The night turned out to be a huge success, although it happened to be the rainiest day of the year. Backstage, we lost power probably five times within 3 hours. To this day, I still have no idea how all those models got ready in the dark, yet they looked so perfect.

Junior Prom in March as well as Senior Ball in May also turned out to be huge successes. Junior Prom, the infamous dance on a giant boat, offered dinner, karaoke, and dancing. Although I did not attend, I heard many great things. Senior Ball decided to take on a new venue also known as the CA Academy of Sciences. I had the privilege of attending this event. I had not had more fun in years! As the 2011 school year came to a close, Marin Catholic said goodbye to the Class of 2011 and looked forward to the summer!

After months of sunscreen, beaches and tanning, it was back to work in August. The sports teams kicked off an incredible year as the football team won our first rival game against Saint Ignatius for the second year in a row. The football team ended up winning MCAL, making it to NCS final, and was ranked #5 in Northern CA. Men's soccer was both MCAL and NCS semifinalists. Men's water polo took home an MCAL championship, as women's volleyball took home an NCS championship pennant and made it to state semifinals. Marin Catholic also saw two cross-country state qualifiers compete, Audric LeCouturier and Jordan Allen.

The play "Servant of Two-Masters" was a tremendous success as well, taking all proceeds and putting them towards the MC Drama Department. It was truly a wonderful production.

Thanksgiving time and finals week was as busy as always; every student temporarily lost their social lives to begin work as their studious selves. As girls put on the Uggs and guys threw on those puffy sweatshirts, winter time was greeted with a warm welcome. So here we are in January of 2012. We are ready to embrace whatever life has to throw at us in 2012, because 2011 sure was a heck of a year! WE ARE MC!
