Ex-Allman Brothers' Guitarist Dickey Betts to Play Marin County Fair

Acclaimed axe man and his band Great Southern perform opening night, June 30, at 7:30 p.m.

Dickey Betts wrote some of Southern rock’s biggest hits, is among Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and garnered a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award in 2012 as a member of the Allman Brothers Band.

Since 2000, however, when he was effectively kicked out of the band – reportedly by fax – and told to clean up his drug and alcohol abuse, Betts has been a bit off the radar. But armed with a stellar catalog of rock radio favorites, including “Ramblin’ Man,” “Blue Sky” and “Jessica,” Betts has continued touring with his own band, Great Southern, which features his son Duane Betts, who is named after Duane Allman, the guitar legend and founding Allman Brothers Band member who died tragically in a motorcycle crash in 1971.

In addition to the aforementioned honored, the New York Times called Betts “…one of the great rock guitarists…for his ability to marry the melody and rhythm of many genres including country, jazz, blues and rock.”
