Safety and Security for us and our valuables.

The entire process of us going to a large grocery store, feeling safe and getting home safe should not be on our minds.

Tonight I took a quick stroll to the mega Walmart in banning, did I my thing and purchased, and then left. Upon arrival I noticed a white male, black shirt, blue jeans , thin build, but very dirty looking. He was walking between cars and looking inside them. So I continued to watch him walk up to people in the almost dark lot and beg for money. I do feel for anyone that has to ask someone for money, but feel he was also involving himself with the criminal element and any thing he could steal would be fair game to serve his need. The rental security girl was at the End of the parking lot in a car with he windows up not even realizing this is something a visual deterrent or presence will help. So she wasn't a help. Managers inside the store are too busy to assist. As we continue to worry about the economy and kids in school we do have stressfull lives. This cannot be where banning and Beamont is heading to. People need to be aware and not leave windows down, phones , iPods , purse and other fast high theft items in clear view...criminals only need a second and they have your stuff and you have nothing. Remember that 99 % of most crimes occur due simple mistakes we all make. Take that extra minute. Get off that phone and see who is around you when u pull in a lot. Keep your family safe and with you upon entry and exit from the store. And ask a clerk to help you out or walk with you if you feel the need. That's what they get paid to do.

Excellent advice but it goes further than outside the store. I have seen so many women leave a purse unattended in a store shopping cart, as they turn to check another item. It only takes a second for that purse to disappear. It happened to my sister while shopping in Albertson's. One should always been aware of their surroundings, inside and outside a store.

Tom K - your advice is good. However, the Wal-Mart Supercenter is in Beaumont, NOT Banning. Second, the person that you need to talk to (the rental security parking lot people) inside the store - is the person that handles the changing rooms in the middle of the clothing departments. They radio over to the rental security people. I know as I have had to find out this info myself recently.

Sheri, I'm so glad you mentioned the Security people in the middle of the store. It seems strange to have to go all that way in case of an emergency in the parking lot.

Dec 23 08 I was mugged in the parking lot of Wal-Mart.. Lucky for me Beaumont PD was sitting about 30 yards behind me(did not know it at the time) he caught the criminal in a foot pursuit. I have since learned if I do not feel safe in a parking lot I call Beaumonts Finest!!! In this last 6 months at our Walmart I have witnessed 3 shop lifting pursuits one even involving a car chase.. Bring back out Greeters!!

Living in Philippines for the past month. Security guards upon entry and exit. Security when you leave the mall up until you depart onto the street. Why do I feel more safer in the Philippines than my own country?
