Avon Walk Returns To Corte Madera

The annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer stops in Corte Madera, July 7-8.

The 2012 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer hits Corte Madera and Larkspur, July 6-8, for the second year in a row. Town Park will host the Wellness Village. The route takes walkers between Fort Mason in San Francisco and Town Park on a 39.3-mile journey over two days.

According to the Avon Walk site: "Thanks to the inspired efforts of 150,000 Avon Walk participants, more than $440 million has been raised and donated to breast cancer programs since 2003, supporting research to find a cure or prevention, as well as programs that enable all patients to access quality care. Support for the medically underserved is a key priority — including low-income, elderly and minority individuals, and those who are under-insured."

Reciepients from the 2011 San Francisco Walk include: the Avon Comprehensive Breast Center at San Francisco General Hospital ($750,000), Project Open Hand ($200,000), the Marin County Department of Health & Human Services of San Rafael ($150,000), Zero Breast Cancer of San Rafael ($125,000).

Cancer survivors are also invited to join the birthday-themed Relay for Life float in the Larkspur-Corte Madera 4th of July Parade on Wednesday. The San Rafael Relay for Life is Aug. 25-26 at College of Marin.

I'm grateful for the help I've received at Marin Cancer Institute. Congrats to Dr. Gullion and,Read More really, to everyone who helps us fight cancer.

Prop 37 would have exempted "organic" food from the labeling requirement. What sense doesRead More that make? (Answer: none.)
