Friday, Sept. 13

Oktoberfest on Main in Tiburon

6 p.m., Main Street, Tiburon

Main Street will be reminiscent of a Bavarian biergarten, creating a wunderbar atmosphere in which to dine outdoors.  Enjoy live music from the popular Karl Lebherz Band, performing traditional German music and polkas. Oktoberfest beers and bratwursts will be available for purchase. 

Second Fridays Downtown "Feast in the Piazza"

6 p.m., San Rafael City Plaza - Fourth and Court Street

“On Friday, September 13 from 6 to 9 p.m., Second Fridays Downtown in collaboration with Art Works Downtown's Second Fridays Art Walk will have an Italian theme. The festivities will celebrate our love of all things Italian with food, music and art. Join us in the Plaza for an Italian Food Court offering tastes from local restaurants and producers ($5 tasting donation).  And enjoy the music of Trio Davide -- presenting Italian Classics and songs from the Great American Songbook!”

Rusty Evans and the Ring of Fire Band with guest Barry Sless

“Come hear Rockabilly Hall of Famer, Rusty Evans and the Ring of Fire Band on Friday, Sept. 13th 8-10:30 PM at Fairfax COMMUNITY Church. This dance/concert will also feature guitarist Barry Sless from the David Nelson Band.

World Class Alterna-Jazz Musicians Ian Ethan, Motoshi Kosako, Michael Manring & Paul McCandless

8 p.m., Studio 55 Marin 1455-A East Francisco Blvd., San Rafael

This concert at Studio 55 will mark the first time Motoshi Kosako will have performed with Michael Manring and it's the first time Motoshi will have had the opportunity to play with both Paul McCandless and Michael Manring at the same time. Additionally, Ian Ethan will be featuring his main instrument, the acoustic double-neck guitar, and some fretless guitar and African kalimba. Performing live in one pass, with no pre-recorded samples or loops Ian plays into the loopers on the spot in real-time. Paul McCandless and Michael Manring will join him on some of these special compositions.

Film Night in the Park ~ "The Birds"

8 p.m. Chinese Fishing Village, China Camp, 899 N San Pedro Road, San Rafael  

“Film Night in the Park (a project of A.P.P.L.E. FamilyWorks) marks the 50th anniversary of Alfred Hitchcock's classic thriller, "The Birds," with a special large screen presentation at the Chinese Fishing Village, located at China Camp in San Rafael. Marin town Bodega was immortalized in this 1963 thriller about a beautiful San Francisco socialite who visits the coastal town when thousands of birds descend.”

Saturday, Sept. 14  

3rd Annual Pie Baking Competition

10 a.m., 2257 Larkspur Landing Circle, Larkspur 

“What's more American than apple pie? Show your patriotism through the Marin Country Mart Farmers' Market's third annual pie baking contest! Every entrant will receive a free subscription to Edible Marin for one year, and the winner will receive a $200 cash prize and eternal bragging rights! Bring your best pie to the big farmers' market tent at the Marin Country Mart by 10 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, September 14, to enter the competition. Pie entries should be prepared in a disposable 9" pie tin, and must be accompanied by the title of your pie, your name, your phone number, and the pie recipe. Ingredients must be all natural (natural does not contain any artificial ingredients, coloring, or chemical preservatives), and only one entry is allowed per person. Pies will be judged on taste, presentation, and flakiness of crust.”

Sunday, Sept. 15

Tivoli Festival

10 a.m.,  326 Mission Ave San Rafael 

Aldersly's 67th Annual Tivoli Festival is free to attendants. Featuring Mads Tolling Band and The Vikings of Bjornstad. Music and Folk Dancing, Danish Bakery and Foods, Marketplace and Raffle. Parking and shuttle service available at San Rafael High School.

Organic Senior Lunch catered by the Good Earth

12:15 p.m., 2398 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Fairfax

Hungarian State Folk Ensemble

3 p.m., Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium, 10 Avenue of the Flags at Civic Center Drive in San Rafael 

“In a fiery swirl of sinuous Gypsy melodies and spangled colors comes one of the great folkloric companies in the world, the HUNGARIAN STATE FOLK ENSEMBLE. Centuries of Hungarian culture come to life when this renowned company of 50 from Budapest performs rich and colorful Hungarian folk dance and music traditions, performed at their highest artistic level.”
