I like how our judicial system rules (and other major laws and policies) are decided by voters whoRead More couldn't find Iraq on a globe, can't balance their checkbooks, believe the world is 10,000 years old, and think 48÷2(9+3) = 2.
KMA June 29, 2014 at 01:27 pm
The laws are not decided by votes, unless it is an initiative, and then like Prop 8- it will beRead More overturned by a bunch of liberals .The Congress or Legislature writes and votes on the laws- the people vote these guys in, but not the measures themselves. This is a Republic, not a democracy. So before being critical of others, look in the mirror.

I refer to this as the illegal alien anti-deportation act. Identity theft? No problem, noRead More deporation. Welfare fraud? Please be nice in the future, etc.

I like with Marcus. We recently drove up to Oregon to look at some colleges and visit friends. WeRead More actually saw a Sign along the I 5 that said welcome to the state of Jefferson. Wimpy though the sign was it smacked of people voted against their own best interests.
Lynn Moore July 21, 2014 at 09:13 am
Totally off the subject: But why is this online newsletter called the AgouraHills Patch? I thoughRead More this was Imperial Beach.
Penny Arévalo July 21, 2014 at 01:49 pm
This story got posted statewide, as it's a statewide story. But for commenting purposes, you areRead More directed back to the original Patch which first posted it, which is in Agoura Hills.

Novato 3per --Yes! Thank you! Please note that even on Patch where we all tend to be strong willedRead More about our opinions, the majority support for Toni Shroyer came out of different points of view. Some were just plain tired of the status quo, others felt strongly that Arnold was not representing Novato's best interests, still others found Arnold's support of ABAG and Plan Bay Area the wrong direction for Novato and for myself, it was Arnold's comments on the Novato Housing Element that gave me pause. If Judy really doesn't understand that Novato provided advance environmental review on all five sites and that was in part why HCD gave them approval at a lower density and intensity, then she hasn't learned a damn thing in the two terms she's been Supervisor. While Arnold looks great on a parade float waving at the people can Novato really afford to choose the appearance of propriety over the reality of Judy's dazed and confused outlook on land use, transportation and housing development in Novato?
novato 3per June 4, 2014 at 10:29 pm
I merely relayed an excerpt from a report from the IJ you guys. But it is relevant.
Sam June 5, 2014 at 03:26 am
Here we go again with the stupid opinions One says Arnold looks good on the parade float andRead More she does not understand things in government . Could you see the poster on a Float with a double wide mouth on the front of it . They all once again talk like they are in office and have a vote. When will they figure out if Judy lost this race the winner would have one vote and not five . This is exactly why these posters never come up with a winner as they think they can change everything with postings on Patch
Neel Kashkari. Patch file photo.
Ken Briggs June 8, 2014 at 11:01 am
this boy will do nothing . look at the republican party, when they were in what jobs did they bringRead More in and stayed ? that party shut down many state hospitals, so now we have sick folks running around, and what have they done for the VETS that come back from war ? then who the hell is this boy ? no one in the BAY AREA and up the coast do not know of this boy . Oh well Jerry will do 4 more years and retire if he does not die before then .
c5 June 10, 2014 at 06:59 pm
Kashkari will get smoked, it doesn't matter what he says or does. I will not vote for Brown but heRead More will win going away. Brown's legacy will end up being not enough water storage, a high speed rail system that goes nowhere and leaves a huge hole in the budget, the highest taxes and least friendly place to do business in the country, and a bankrupt fiscal situation with massive unfunded state employee benefits and pensions.
Ken Briggs June 11, 2014 at 03:58 am
but who is this boy ? still no one has seen him in the north part of the state , no one has seen himRead More in Clearlake or Lakeport, Ukiah, Eureka area , so who is this guy . it is June 11th and where is this guy ?
Hopkin June 4, 2014 at 04:25 pm
I saw it (Novato mail-in) and voted no - mainly because I don't think tax measures should be forRead More such a long length of time.
novato 3per June 4, 2014 at 04:37 pm
Love the graphic, vote " aqui " ..was that actually seen in marin ? They cannot be awareRead More of all the issues, discussion, and nuances of life in America to the point where they know enough to make such a valuable decision as vote, but cant / wont put forth the effort to learn the language, can they ?

3per, I saw that sign at the fire station on Atherton.

We need educated voters. Please only vote if you take the time to actually look at the issues youRead More are being asked to vote on. I believe it is the absolute responsibility of those who elect to vote to do the research on the issues. Don't vote for any specific political party. Think for yourself and vote for the specific person or the specific issue you want after you do your research. Don't let others tell you how to vote other than to prepare yourself (research that which you are voting on). If you can't or won't do your research on the election issues then it is best that you do not vote. Freedom comes with responsibilities for all. Be an informed voter.

“Measure A tax money will maintain competitive math, science and engineering programs, attractRead More and retain quality teachers and provide modern instructional technology.” I am 100% confident this parcel tax money will be spent fulfilling the stated ballot promises as well as the current tax, which was supposed to keep class size small (K-2 class size were increased last year) and to fund technology (not one device purchased). The district has announced they will do away with an accelerated math track, they do not plan to meaningful increase teacher salary, and they will not pay for technology in our classrooms. It is clear who the clear winner was in this election, and it is not our teachers or their students. Disappointing.
JT Martin May 8, 2014 at 08:25 pm
Sylvia, can you honestly say that you support the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on thisRead More special, off cycle ballot? You don't think this approach was underhanded in the least?

Why isn't Ginnold taking the high road and retiring NOW? She should forgo her pension until herRead More $100,000 mistake is repaid to the taxpayers. Shameful of Ms. Ginnold to just keep on smiling.

MGH is counting on Assessed Value (AV) to increase 4% per year. That means your property tax forRead More Measure F will increase 4% per year. "Actual future AV will depend upon the amount and value of taxable property...as determined by the assessment and the equalization process." [Sample Ballot, pg HCF-1, just above MGH Director Bedard's name] What is total cost for this bond when interest rate is set at legal limit (currently 12%)and has a maturity date up to 40 years? MGH isn't talking actual numbers. Low ball the cost to taxpayers is the usual way to a pass a bond or tax. MGH is clear that unknowns like "improve related facilities with new constriction, acquisitions, and renovations" will be bankrolled by Measure F. What are these "unknowns"? Borrowing costs money and GO bonds can cost three times the principal $394ml + $1.182bl = $1.576 billion. Now that's an equalization process. And so is this: Vote NO on Measure F.
