Sen. Leno says it's a waste of time and money, and Assemblyman Ammiano calls it an ill-timed, ill-conceived attack on medical marijuana collectives.
Two Bay Area legislators are calling for an immediate halt to the federal crackdown on medical marijuana dispensaries in California, saying the effort is harming patients, misusing taxpayer dollars and contrary to what California voters want. According to a release from Sen. Mark Leno's office, Leno and Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, both Democrats from San Francisco, joined medical marijuana patients, dispensary operators and advocates Wednesday in their criticism of federal plans for sweeping criminal prosecutions against pot dispensaries, threatening landlords with eviction, property seizures and imprisonment. “I urge the federal government to stand down in its massive attack on medical marijuana dispensaries, which will have devastating …

Corte Madera Town Council will discuss its moratorium on medical marijuana during Tuesday's meeting.
Marin Holistic Solutions for the past year has been quietly breaking the law, according to the federal government. Depending on the results of an upcoming vote by the Corte Madera Town Council, the medial marijuana dispensary could be forced to close its doors. The Town Council is scheduled to take up the issue of whether or not to renew its moratorium on medial marijuana Tuesday night. Marin Holistic Solutions operates out of the Tamal Plaza office park, near the Department of Motor Vehicles. The dispensary caused an uproar when it first opened as the Town claimed the owners hadn't been completely above board when filling out a business license.

Somewhere between Your Highness and The Godfathers of Ganga on the walls of the video store sat What If Cannabis Cured Cancer? I've heard some of the scientific theories behind the question, but the movie sounded more like a group of college students looking for an excuse to get high. I was wrong. It's more like a group of college teachers looking for an excuse to get high and charge the cost of the pot to the school. Now, granted, a lot of great films have started at the UCLA Film School, but the foul-mouthed puppet short Kurt Cannabis Meets Connie Cancer isn't one of them, even …

Is it safe? Effective? And how does the legal process work?
Moratoriums have been placed on new medical marijuana dispensaries in Corte Madera, Fairfax and Novato; and Fairfax’s Alliance for Medical Marijuana is in murky water with the IRS, according to the Marin Independent Journal. Yet the state’s medical marijuana law is alive and well. Sausalito physician Gene Schoenfeld wants fellow practitioners to know that they can prescribe marijuana for their patients and have no reason to be afraid of federal or state sanctions. “Many doctors are still wary of the law,” said Schoenfeld, a psychiatrist who also works in addiction medicine. Referring to California’s Compassionate Use Act of 1996, Schoenfeld emphasizes that “doctors are safe, as long as they treat the situation as they would any other …

As I understand it, and I might be wrong as I only have the news media I have seen to examine this, the Federal DOJ has been cracking only on clubs that are within a problematic range of k-12 school zones. Not all clubs are being served notice. Now everyone should know, Prop 215 is legal use of medical MJ in California, and that is not recognized at this time by Federal Government, so all clubs …   more ›
