San Clemente Space Shifts From Horsepower To Pedal Power

City Cycle bikes is preparing to open the doors to its newest store in Corte Madera on Monday, Jan. 2, taking over the former Harley Davidson dealership.

There's a new stop on a popular route for cyclists in Corte Madera. City Cycle, with shops in San Anselmo and San Francisco, will ring in the new year with a new store.

City Cycle's new outlet takes over the space on San Clemente Drive formerly occupied by Golden Gate Harley Davidson. The store is set for a "soft" opening Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 with a grand opening possibly in early March.

"It's been a huge amount of work to get this going and it's happened in a short amount of time," said Mitch Trux, the store's director of community outreach. "We look forward to starting a  new chapter in the business."

The expanding chain is strengthening its Marin roots after Paradigm Cycles in San Anselmo purchased City Cycle in the Cow Hollow neighborhood.

"The store has always attracted more riders from outside San Anselmo and it's been very popular," according to Trux. "This store in Corte Madera is more central for all the communities in Marin. It has easy access right off the highway. We're right on the Paradise loop, which is popular with bikers."

There are plans in the works to offer regular group rides along popular local bike routes, including the Paradise Loop and the Alpine Loop.

"Since we have so much space, we look forward to having different community events here," Trux said. City Cycle will be working with the Marin County Bicycle Coalition on bike safety clinics and already sponsors race teams for Redwood High School and the Branson School, as well as local Masters riders and triathletes.

The Corte Madera store will actually be the largest in the firm's history, with 9,000 square feet. That allows City Cycle to offer a brand new feature to its customers: a space dedicated to female cyclists, offering more women's bikes. Trux says the store will focus on bicycle sales, including road, mountain and recreation bikes for every member of the family. The new store will also offer maintenance and fitting services to provide "a bike that's well-suited to the customer's needs," according to Trux.
