Cop Calls: Dry Cleaning Offers Clue To Stolen Car

Twin Cities Police Log: Residential and commercial burglaries, auto thefts and bike thefts in Larkspur, Greenbrae and Corte Madera.

The following incidents were reported by the Twin Cities Police between August 1-7, 2012. Suspects are innocent unless proven guilty. Arrests do not necessarily equal convictions.

• The owner of a vehicle which had been reported as stolen to TCPA on July 10, from the area of the Mollie Stone’s grocery store located in the Bon Air Shopping Center, advised police that she received a phone call from a man who told her that her vehicle had been parked in the 20 block of La Cuesta Drive for seven to 10 days. He reportedly had found her phone number on her dry cleaning, which was hanging in the car. The vehicle was determined to be in CHP jurisdiction. CHP was advised and responded for the recovery. The vehicle was cleared from the Stolen Vehicle System and returned to the owner.  There may be additional investigation pending.

• A business in the 500 block of Magnolia Avenue reported that they had been broken into via the back door. The cash register was damaged and cash was taken. They also discovered their flat screen television and a blue ray player were taken. Total loss is estimated at $830. A Commercial Burglary report was taken.

• A resident of the 20 block of Onyx Street reported younger male subjects who have been walking back and forth in the area. He said he could hear them yelling and screaming at each other, and they might possibly be intoxicated. A Kentfield juvenile male, a Greenbrae juvenile male and a Tiburon juvenile male were contacted in the area of Madrone Avenue at Valley Way. Contact was also made with a Larkspur juvenile male at Doliver Park. A parent was contacted and responded to the scene to pick up the juveniles. Their vehicle was parked and locked at the scene.

• A contractor working on a residence in the 300 block of Eliseo Drive reported the residents have moved out during the construction and when he pulled up to the residence, he found the garage door was ajar.  He noted there were numerous bikes that are now missing and also some power tools have been taken.  A  Residential Burglary report was taken and there is possible follow-up pending.

• A Corte Madera resident reported his bicycle, a bright blue Trek hybrid men’s three speed, was stolen while parked in front of the Century Cinema Theater on Tamal Vista Boulevard, where it had been chained to a fence.  He reported when he came out of the theater, he found the lock had been cut.  The approximate value is $400.  Documentation was provided for the theft.

• A resident of the 900 block of South Eliseo Drive reported there was fraudulent activity totaling over $2,000 to her checking account. A Fraud report was taken and there is further action pending.

• A resident of the 5300 block of Paradise Drive reported someone had entered his residence, possibly via an open window in the den. He stated his computer and an iPod Touch were missing and he had located his TV sitting in the hallway. A Residential Burglary report was taken. The total loss is estimated at $6,000.

• A resident of the 200 block of Sausalito Street reported he was the victim of Identity Theft. He advised that there has been fraud on his Verizon phone account for an approximate $220 loss at this time. A Fraud report was taken and there is further investigation pending.

• Pursuant to being located at her residence in the 10 block of Presidio Court, a Corte Madera woman was arrested for an outstanding warrant held by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.  She was booked at the Marin County Jail.

• Pursuant to  being located sleeping in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal, a Nevada man was arrested for two outstanding warrants, one held by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the second held by the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office.  He was booked at the Marin County Jail.

• A business in The Village Shopping Center reported via 9-1-1 that the business next door, Julianna’s Fine Jewelry, had just been robbed by three male subjects in black hoodies. The subjects shattered the glass cases and took display jewelry. They were last seen on foot fleeing toward the rear of the shopping center, carrying a duffle bag. They also reported someone in the store had been injured during the commission of the crime. He had been struck in the head with a tire iron type implement.  He was transported to the Marin General Hospital Emergency Room where he was treated and released.  A Robbery report was taken and there is continued investigation in progress.

• A Tiburon resident reported that while her vehicle had been parked in the lot at the Marin Airporter, located at 300 Larkspur Landing Circle, someone had broken the rear window to the vehicle.  At the time of the call, she was unsure if there was any loss.  An Auto Burglary report was taken for documentation.

• A business in the 700 building of Larkspur Landing Circle reported someone broke into the business through the front door. Damage was located on the door frame as if a pry tool was used. It was determined a laptop, valued at $1,200, had been taken. A Commercial Burglary report was taken.

• A resident of the 50 block of Piedmont Court reported a set of left-handed golf clubs had been taken from his unlocked garage during the night. The set of clubs includes various specialty clubs, of multiple brands, and is valued at approximately $1,200. A Residential Burglary report was taken for documentation.

• A resident of the 2000 block of Redwood Highway reported someone stole his son's unsecured blue and white Rock Hopper 21 speed men's bicycle from the front yard.  Documentation was provided for the theft.

• While on patrol in the parking lots of The Village Shopping Center, a Twin Cities Police Officer advised he was out with a vehicle with its passenger window smashed.  Contact was made with the owner, a San Rafael resident, and it was determined her brown Louis Vuitton purse was stolen.  While he was on the scene, the Officer located a second window smash victim.  Contact was made with the owner, a Petaluma resident. It was determined nothing was missing. Two Auto Burglary reports were taken.

• Twin Cities Police received a call from a person who advised she was parked next to a vehicle that had the driver's side rear window smashed in the Corte Madera Town Center. Contact was made with the owner, a Corte Madera resident, who advised CHP had just dropped off her purse at her residence. CHP reported the purse was located on Southbound US 101, by the Casa Buena on-ramp. The purse was checked and it was determined nothing was missing. An Auto Burglary report was taken.

• A Novato resident reported that while his vehicle was parked in a lot in the 50 block of Tamal Vista Boulevard, someone smashed the rear passenger window and stole his briefcase.  An Auto Burglary report was taken and there is follow-up investigation in progress.

• A resident of the 30 block of Paloma Drive reported she was the victim of a theft. She said that she let people in her home, believing they were friends of her son, and then was distracted by her dog.  When she returned to where the subjects were, they had left and taken items of her's with them.  Missing are jewelry, medication and a watch. A residential Burglary report was taken.

• A Corte Madera resident reported that while his vehicle was parked in the 600 block of Tamalpais Drive, the tires were slashed.  There were no witnesses and there is no suspect information.  Documentation was provided for the vandalism.

• A resident of the 20 block of Sycamore Avenue reported her ex-husband cashed an IRS refund check with both of their names on it, without obtaining her endorsement, for $4,134 and has not provided her with her portion.  A Fraud report was taken and there is follow-up pending.

• A Corte Madera resident reported five books were checked out at the San Anselmo Library under her name.  Documentation was provided for the possible Fraud.

• A business located in The Village Shopping Center reported earlier in the day, four female subjects came into the store. Three of the subjects distracted the sales clerk while the other subject stole two purses from a display fixture.  Sensors for the missing purses were later discovered inside another nearby purse.  The total loss was $896.  The theft was not witnessed.  Documentation was provided for the theft.

• A Corte Madera resident reported that while he was at a restaurant in the Bon Air Shopping Center, his iPhone was taken while it had been left on a table.  He reported he has been able to track its location to Petaluma. A Theft report was taken.

• A Novato resident reported his elderly mother, who lives in the 170 block of Birch Avenue, got a scam phone call from Canada stating her grandson was in trouble and they needed money to bail him out.  His mother had taken the money out of the bank, but didn't send it anywhere.  Documentation was provided for the attempted Fraud.

During this one week time period, Twin Cities Police had 354 calls for service. This included one call related to an accident with major injuries, one accident with minor injuries, two hit and run accidents and seven property damage only accidents. There were five auto burglaries, two commercial burglaries and three residential burglaries. There were no calls related to Driving while Intoxicated.
