5 things to know as we celebrate Columbus Day

• Federal offices will be closed today, along with many state, county and city offices.


• The screen at the Century Cinema in Corte Madera is just big enough to capture all the action and thrills of The Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Mill Valley Film Festival presents a 30th anniversary screening of the amazing adventure film that helped make Harrison Ford a superstar. Fans are invited to come dressed in their fedoras and leather jackets, but leave the bullwhips at home, please.

• The Larkspur Citizen Advisory Committee will meet at Town Hall tonight from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to discuss trails, roadways and traffic issues.

• Author Jon Agee will hang out at Book Passage in Corte Madera this morning at 10 a.m. to discuss his new children's book My Rhinoceros. Later in the day, at 7 p.m., Hector Tobar will sit down with fans of his previous work The Tattooed Soldier. He'll introduce his new effort The Barbarian Nurseries.

• The casting call is going out for anyone who wants to walk the stage in College of Marin's production of the Anton Chekhov play The Cherry Orchard. Auditions begin at 7 p.m. tonight in the portable building behind the gym. Call 485-9555 for information.
