'Light' Agenda Following Elections

Corte Madera's Town Council is expected to formalize its decision to join the Marin Energy Authority.

Corte Madera's leaders knocked out a lot of business within the past two weeks, culminating in the re-election of Mayor Alexandra Cock and Vice-Mayor Bob Ravasio.

Now it's back to business.

The Town Council is expected to formalize its decision to join the Marin Energy Authority with a second reading of the ordinance at Tuesday's meeting, 7:30 p.m. The Council voted 4-1 two weeks ago to join the MEA, making Corte Madera the last Marin County municipality to join the joint powers authority.

Residents will automatically enrolled in Marin Clean Energy at a default level and will have the choice to move up to a greener level at a higher rate, or to opt out completely and rejoin PG&E. Cock points out the Town must make similar decisions for its infrastructure.

In addition to joining MEA, Cock would like to see Corte Madera renew discussions about finding other ways to make the Town more environmentally friendly, including the addition of solar panels and more energy-efficient windows and doors on Town buildings.

"We want to make the Town's facilities more efficient," Cock said. "It's good to be environmentally progressive."
