The Week's Headlines

The Twin Cities were the center of attention for visitors from China and shoppers from all over the Bay Area.

Here are some of the events that grabed headlines in the Twin Cities during the past week:

• Redwood High School welcomed a group of music students from Beijing Wenhui Middle School as part of a cultural exchange Thursday. The day appeared to spark some friendships as the students enjoyed music and lunch together.

• Redwood High School's boys basketball team wrapped up the regular season with back-to-back wins over Justin-Siena and Novato. The girls squad also ended the regular season on a high note with a win over Novato. Both teams open the Marin County Athletic League playoffs Tuesday.

• Verizon launched its highly-anticipated version of the iPhone on Thursday. The debut met with solid sales, according to Verizon officials. Shoppers crowded into the Verizon Store and the Apple Store in Corte Madera to get their hands on the new phone.

• Protesters gathered at the gates of San Quentin to voice their displeasure at Gov. Jerry Brown's plans to cut state funding for support of people living with disabilities. The protests came as a federal judge was inspecting some of the changes made to the prison's execution chamber.
